High idle on cold start up???
For the past couple months my X5 is idling high when starting from a cold start (i.e. first start of the day). High idle lasts approx. 20 secs before returning to normal.
I replaced the crankcase vent hose and that didn’t seem to do much. I did install a new valve cover gasket a couple months ago and not sure if this is what started it. Sorry, I know thats vague, but my wife drives the vehicle 90% of the time so my observations aren’t as good as they should be. 80k miles. Any ideas what this could be? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! |

Are you talking about the cold start programming BMW has? Mine has a higher idle for a bit every time I start it cold and then it drops back to normal.
It sounds like you’re talking about a normal BMW thing, but if not you’ll need to go into more detail. |

My wife's X5 idles high for a short while on cold starts - we haven't had it long but expected that normal.
I replaced the crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve and afterwards tested the crankcase pressure at -50 mbar, which is design. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304908625355 |
