Need help with hybrid plz thx

Hello,

So I have a 2018 BMW x5 40e hybrid, at around 101km. Over the last couple of months I have been getting drivetrain malfunctions while driving and it kind of stutters when that happens if that makes sense. Not sure the term. It will also show check engine light.

I got it looked at the other day and this is an Indy shop. He said the hybrid battery is fucked up. All these different codes. He said it also probably fucked up my aux battery which needs to be replaced. He said they should maybe even cover that too. I know I have the 8yr 128km warranty on hybrid battery still for the vehicle so he said to take it to BMW. I took it and they said it’s cell 2 that’s bad. Needs to be replaced and will send that code stuff to BMW to see what they say for warranty.

I’m concerned tho because I checked on my own code scanner and it says hybrid battery life is around 25% remaining. I’m not sure what that means but it sounds bad. I did ask today that they also check that out because what would just one cell do if the rest isn’t doing that good. Then it would be the other one, etc. wasn’t very nice. He said sure. Not sure he will. But with that info does anyone know ? How bad is the hybrid battery? Should they be doing more than the one cell if it’s worse that just that? Are they trying to skim the problem..

Should I try to fight. Idek what to say… I’m new to BMW and hybrids. And a girl so I feel like people think they can fuck me over which is why I want to know all the info and get some advice somewhere so I can be more aggressive so it’s fixed properly before warranty is out. I just don’t know enough to make sure it gets done well.
And should they replace the aux battery ?

Sorry if this is confusing or whatever I tried my best to explain and am very grateful for anyone who gives any insight. Really disappointed to have this problem as the vehicle is not that old at all … and hasn’t been driven like crazy too.

Thanks (:

Hey, I am having the same issue with my car. I bought mine unknowingly with the battery problem. I get drive train issues and when plugged into bimmerlink, i get error codes relating to cell 2. It exceedes the upper voltage limit. I have an ev specialist looking at it in the UK, I will let you know what he comes back with.
In the uk we only get 6 years and 60000 miles warranty on the hybrid battery, so I am out of warranty. But from my research, if your battery life is less than 70%, BMW should change. If I was in your position, I would definitely push BMW to change the whole hybrid battery!! Good luck and let me know how you get on!

Thanks for the info!
Sucks to hear about your situation too guess it’s pretty common then. Didn’t think hybrid would be this difficult.
I am gonna see what they say because it seems they want to just change cell 2 but I did ask to check the battery level. 25% life left is really trash if that is correct … seems pointless to change 1. Do they change to updated current parts? Probably right. Maybe it’s better than what is in ours…
Just hate pushing for stuff and trying to convince people to do the right thing. Especially dealerships… they sukkk

Thanks for the push I will try … might be hard but I’m gonna try. Too bad urs is already up. In USA I think it goes up to 160k which is a lot.

Thanks so much again and good luck with your situation.
Do keep me updated too I am very interested to hear what happens next in your case

Update …

So BMW found that cell 2 was defective. So they changed it. Under warranty.
Still there, but asked for them to let me know the charge of the rest too. Feel like it’s still not great like 50-60% max…
Must be like 10k plus repair here
Worried about this happening again so I’m gonna ask that they send that result to BMW tho they seem very reluctant saying ‘they won’t do anything’
I hope they will … I’m gonna push cuz they’re supposed to ?? If it’s not at 70% ??

Idk why they act so hesistant
Dealerships suck
Swear it needs the whole thing changed or like 4/6 cells or something. Not really cool for BMW
