Interested in buying an X5

Hi everyone,

I currently have a 2018 bmw x2 X drive (love it) but my family is growing and was very interested in purchasing an F chassis X5. From a surface level on this forum, it looks to be incredibly problematic but I was curious if you guys had any suggestions or insight?

F15 platform is pretty reliable and doesn't have any major issues with proper maintenance. It all depends on which engine you want. N55 gas is very well known and considered reliable. N57 diesel is amazing and nearly bullet proof but you probably don't want it in California because of all the emissions components. N63TU V8 gas is very fun to drive but was part of the major settlement due to the excessive oil consumption, this engine probably is the most sensitive to proper maintenance and requires most attention. N20 plug in hybrid was great when new, but these days hybrid battery cells are causing issues and replacing these are quite pricey. Search the forum, there is plenty of info for each version.

The N63TU was not part of the N63 Customer Care Package.

This latest one you link to has never come into play for me in 5 years of ownership, the original N63…. nightmare.
