Didn’t know resonator PLUS muffler was desirable… when I got the delete kit there was an option for resonator and/or DOC.. i got Gesi DOC. They said if you keep muffler no need for resonator, so kept muffler but would like more deep tone at idle and just more aggressive exhaust but not full straight pipe as that may be a bit too ridiculous imo for this luxury car. This is first muffler I’ve seen for diesel. I am highly considering swapping oem muffler for this Vibrant model you have. How much louder than stocker muffler would you say it is versus straight pipe? Why did you add resonator also? I think I would skip this as hopefully it gets louder/nastier sound especially at start and idle without too much high frequency cheaper sounds. What do you think?! Much appreciated dude! Edit: One other possibility is to delete the muffler entirely and do just a resonator. I’m a little worried that the vibrant exhaust will be barely noticeable improvement in depth and aggressiveness of the sound. Or could consider other muffler brands apparently Banks Power Monster is more diesel focused and a bit louder muffler. Last edited by LateParty2018X535d; 10-04-2025 at 11:08 PM.. |

I wasn’t sure if without the resonator I would have drones or hums so decided to go with it.
I like mine to be a sleeper type, so mine is pretty quiet unless I floor it. It just sounds a bit sporty when driving but you can definitely hear the turbo. I got rid of the turbo silencer and went with the tune my euro straight connector. When I get a chance I’ll post a video. It’s just too windy my way these days. Not drastic at all, but you can actually hear it spooling now when I step on it. It’s nice.

Hello, anyone has the measurements for scr exhaust unit so that i can ask my local exhaust shop to make it prior to my dpf removal as I have limited access to my workplace hoist for doing the work. Thanks in advance.

The drone depends on the mid pipe and if it has a resonator or not... If you have a resonator, you should be good to delete the rear muffler... if not, you will get lots of drone noise. If youre stock, should be fine.

While subjective i say no not a lot of drone noise at all. I tried about 7 resonators after muffler delete and none did well at all. Delete but keep the muffler is quite good actually. But kept full delete no resonators and all stainless pipe. Very awesome aggressive at full throttle. Nobody really notices cabin drone it is momentary also before shifting. It’s quite good fully delete. Again agression in exhaust note under load is quite awesome.

Also of note any mild drone that happens is mostly brief. Between 1600 and 2000 rpms. Cruise on roadtrip not noticeable, during initial highway acceleration noticeable until cruise reached.
Can also be reduced going from sport to comfort and further to eco pro. Closing sunroof cover helps with acoustics likewise with opening the vent. Windows also modulate. Delete w/muffler though also quite good. Without muffler acoustics change at idle you get more of the diesel rumble/greater range of sound at muffler than with it. With muffler you get a bit more of the woosh exhaust pressure sound since the rumble is taken down. W/o muffler exhaust sounds more like front/engine of car at the exhaust. Essentially makes acoustics similar from front to rear full length of vehicle. I had a performance 3 in air intake installed and didn?t like all the constant turbo noises in the closed cabin so got rid of it. But coming through the rear exhaust is quite good and mostly only noticeable with windows down. Very fun exhaust note fully deleted and nice harsh rip at full load Very hard to find a muffler better than stock sound since almost everything aftermarket is filled with fiber glass instead of hollow baffled chamber If you do delete muffler though DO NOT use aluminum pipe use stainless and heavier gauge better, aluminum Fs up acoustic signature and stainless obviously would be proper BMW way to go Last edited by LateParty2018X535d; 03-08-2026 at 01:14 PM.. |

I am about to undertake the task of removing the DPF on my 2018...any words of wisdom? I have all the exhaust parts and the tuned DDE. Also is there a need to connect coolant hoses when removing the SCR sensor?

So, you’ll obviously have to disconnect the coolant lines from the EGR coolers.
If I’m not mistaken, the rear passenger side you will completely remove and will be plugged up with the bolt your kits should have. The drivers side hose going to a sensor will be plugged up with the aluminum plug your kit should have. Not sure where you got your kits from, mine is from Darkside. |

I didn’t do that. I just zip tied it hidden up the side where it is originally. The DEF injector is useless once you disconnect the SCR Module and the coolant will still flow.
But you can do that if you want. |

What’s the consensus on swirl flaps with our N57 and a full delete?
I’ve read a bunch about the differences between M57 and N57, better design but the copper possibly breaking, the possibility of low end torque suffering from removing them (even if tuned?), and etc… but no clear best direction with delete+tune. You guys who’ve been deleted and tuned for a while, keep swirl flaps active or delete as well? Also wanna thank everyone posting info as this thread has been a huge help in info gathering and research! |

Sorry - just a little new to this. My beloved 16' X5d has just had a rather large repair quote ($23k) stating the Manifold, valve cover, DPF, EGR side cooler, and exhaust manifold all need to be done or the DPF will go into end-of-life in another 15,000 miles or so.
I think part of the problem is the sensors detect a leak so won't initiate a regen. Not sure if I can force a regen with the code reader? Or is there any other simple bypass to prevent the computer from going to a no-start condition? |

Its NOT worth what the repair is quoted.
But to find one with all the options is rare, and then spending $22k on a new vehicle that is almost identical or has a few missing options isn't appealing. I like the car, but all these combining at once is a bit much. I'd just at least like to extend the life a bit before looking at alternatives. Maybe the newer X5 hybrids or something - but still nowhere near the mileage, and require premium. Not a lot of good options at this point, but for 15,000 miles I've got about 6-7 months to figure it out. |
