If the car goes to service and they perform a software update, are we going to loose all the coding?
There is a way to have a full backup just in case?

Not every module will necessarily have an update; but those that do will be overwritten. You do not want to restore backups from earlier firmware; as such, you will need to re-code.

I'll admit that I haven't read this thread all the way through yet, but I'm curious if you've had success coding with the Vgate OBD 2 WiFi. Any hiccups?

EDIT: I finally got through this thread and may have the confidence that this can work for me. I may start with a Vgate III (http://amzn.to/2vDrUu4) as newer "should be" better, right?!?
Stellar thread! Thanks to everyone contributing all this great info! |

Bimmercode is a great app at least for me, coded in my first attempt without any errors or problems.

Woah... where in Bimmercode are you coding the color options? I would love to get something other than blue/orange/white

Bit the bullet and just ordered the VGate OBD 2 WiFi (I liked the idea of having a display on the device to confirm connection as well as the overwhelming success rate of this model (not discounting you wjdunn3 ! )...and added a fun item to qualify for the "free shipping": http://amzn.to/2vFSAtY LOL...maybe they'll look tacky, but...

Older, non-LED, lamps send signals to check for presence of lights. However, with LEDs, this ends up resulting in faults, flickering, and potential short circuit issues. As such, removing checks eliminates the problem when switching out factory lamps for LEDs.
