I am shocked the dealer didn't cover this under the warranty... which has me scared for my own car which appears to have a similar issue right now (around 53K miles).

BMW has a software calculation which estimates how long the DPF will be functional. as it gets closer an error message (not engine light ) is set to inform of a replacement is getting closer. Again the estimation wont trigger and engine light. The estimation depends on several aspects but doesnt mean if mileage is achieved DPF must be replaced.
What defines if a replacement is required will be the delta pressure across the DPF which indicates the ash burnt from the regeneration process is clogging the filter. Good DPF at idle delta pressure is around 0.15-0.20 PSI. On clogged DPF this will be over 5 PSI. I suggest first confirm current delta pressure on your system. Second make sure run regeneration on highway ... over 40 mph ... constant speed for 15-20min. Can use Bimmerlink app to request regen. If that doesnt fix the problem ... pull the trigger for a replacement. |

From someone that recently did a more permanent solution to emissions related equipment, I say if you live in an area that doesn’t test emissions, do it. Reliability goes way up, fuel mileage goes way up, power goes way up. No downsides at all. This stuff is horrible for your engine, get rid of it and extend the life of your diesel!

Hello,
I have a 2020 BMW 840d with only 50,000 km, and I'm encountering the error code 2BB100. There are no symptoms with the car—just the check engine light. No power loss, everything feels fine. I had the DPF professionally cleaned, as well as the intake manifold and the entire exhaust line, but the error code still comes back. The dealership refuses to admit that the DPF needs to be replaced, especially since they had another vehicle with the same issue, and even after replacing the DPF and the sensors, the problem wasn't resolved. They now tell me the issue likely comes from a faulty injector and that I should replace all the injectors. I’m quite puzzled. Also, I’ve noticed my exhaust tips are blackened—was that the case for you as well? Did replacing the DPF actually solve the issue in your case? Thanks for your response. |

DPF does not fail that early with out some sort of upstream failure. Fuel injectors or a clogged air filter can do this to you. |
