I have a feeling i am liking the audi designs better than BMW.Time to move on.The last good looking car BMW produced has been the present Z4 followed by the 3 series. The rest have been just pure garbage when it comes to looks.Even the toureg looks better than this design.

Looks like BMW is following honda and toyota redefining ugliness with each cycle. This is much better than the X3/X1 but comon ...you have a bunch of top class designers under you who work for months together on a new X5 and you end up with this?A high school graduate can produce this design with the very basic PS skills.Either they are playing ti safe or they are very very very Lazy.

That's what I'm saying, but I do want to reserve final judgment till I see it in the metal. These pics are bad.

Though my experience tells me one should not judge until seeing the real thing, I actually now feel better about ordering a 2013 E70 (getting a pretty good deal in the process) instead of waiting to get one of the first ones of this new generation.

On another note, one has to respect others' preferences, but BMW would have to do something really stupid for the X5 to be labeled as uglier than a Q7..... And though they have proven they can do stupid things (e.g 5 series Gran Turismo) this new X5 is thankfully not an example of those rare design fails.

And people are suprised with the looks of this car? 3 series front, X3 rear, what did you expect? it still looks very similar to the current X5 with a few changes. I won't judge until I see it in person.
obviously the x5 doesn't compete with the q5. That was not my point. There is no vehicle that competes with the SQ5 (seeing as there is no m-performance version of the X3). My point was for me, personally, I was eyeing a 2nd SUV for myself, with the wife trading up to a real 3-row SUV (not the fake 3-row in the X5). So I am actually conidering a q5 as a replacement for my 3er.

Definitely, I actually don't get why so many people here are complainig about the X3. Sure, it's a matter of taste, but the current X3 is one of the sharpest looking SUV out there, especially with the M package (at least for me, of course).

I have a 2013 X3 AW M-Sport loaded SAV. It works well for me. Don't see the intermix of X series being a bad thing. Cousins often look alike.

hmm, I like the renderings if they are legit.

A bit of X3, a bit of 3/5 series (grill).

BMW has done away with the bulbous (bloated) look of the previous version.

The current one is so much more aggressive looking, the smooth curves on the new one just kill the aggression and make it look very soft. No thanks

I don't see the similarities with the current Durango....

Regardless, the Durango has the MB ML underpinnings so that ain't negative.

Why does everyone persist on judging a one-dimensional computer generated image of a mid-line model specially developed for a web promo?

Wait until the summer for the official pictures and you will be able to see how the car actually looks in real life. Yes we do these things ahead of schedule we start work when we are around a year from launch , Film and photography will commence soon , the 2er i3 and production 4er are also at this stage.

The leak was big news at the NAIAS today.

Yeah I don't see that either. I do see a little bit of Grand Cherokee though. Although I think that is just because of the power of suggestion.

Never seen one of these things before but the BM looks nothing like a Durango.

There is nothing wrong with the X3 at all but I personally think BM could have done better. It is too conservative that's all. Current styling is way too risk averse. They need someone like Chris Bangel to put them back on the styling map.

X5 seems to be on the same conservative trail.

The best thing about the new X5 (possibly if the renders are real) is that it will still look better than the Merc ML which is stylistically all over the place - very soft looking with a sad face profile front and rear.
