EXACTLY my thoughts. Can't say it any better. I love love love the front and how mean it looks with the headlights. Next vehicle for me will be an LCI X5 E70 tho. That style just speaks to me.

But the # just can't match, see below:
Definitions: Curb Weight = Weight of Car with standard accessories, full fluids, no driver Unladen EU Weight = Weight of Car with 90% fuel, 68 kg driver, 7 kg cargo Unladen DIN Weight = Weight of Car with 90% fuel, no driver, no cargo 1 US Gallon = 3.8 liters Weight of 1 US Gallon of Gasoline = 6.35 pounds (2.87 kg) Weight of 1 liter of Gasoline = 1.67 pounds (0.76 kg) Equations for Weight Conversion: Curb Weight (metric) = EU1 Weight - 68kg for driver - 7 kg for cargo + (0.1 X Fuel Capacity X 0.76) EU Weight (metric) = Curb Weight + 68 kg for driver + 7 kg for cargo - (0.1 X Fuel Capacity X 0.76) 1 KG = 2.2 pounds So in US measument the 50i should be some where around 4800lbs. |

I noticed this, too! Great eye. Based on the press release, I believe this will be for the parking feature. From the release: "Also new, and due to become available for the X5 by December 2013, is the latest generation of the BMW Parking Assistant. This helps the driver look for suitable parallel parking spaces and precisely maneuvers the vehicle into a parking space, not only by steering but also by operating the accelerator and brake pedal and selecting the appropriate gear. When the system has been activated at the press of a button, the new BMW X5 can park itself automatically in a selected parking space.

I'm thinking of trading my 550i for the M-sport 50i.
People will get used to it when they see it on the streets. Then they'll change their minds. Like with every BMW, people will get used to it. I feel the people that bought the 13' E70 are the ones that says it's ugly. I had the E70 before and I think the F15 is so much nicer. |

Well, alot of X3 in this one, and it looks smaller than the E70 as well.
And some of the design elements... First of, the air curtain, it looks more natural og have the right size, as opposed to the 4 series imo. The headlights, where they connect to the kindey's, it looks artificial imo. Very dissapointed in that key design element! As for the rear lights, looks to much like the 5GT, which makes the car look abit heavy. Having said that, i think the interiour will make up for some of these things, and for sure, it will grow on me. Because i might buy this down the lane. But for now, the E70 doesn't look dated or old by any means, it's still looks great. So for those with a 13' model E70, enjoy it!

All this hand-wringing over the styling amuses me. It's an SUV.
I'm getting one later this year because I want the Utility part of SUV and it will replace my current winter beater. Space to haul crap, and I'll feel better driving it in the winter, and I don't want to rack up too many miles on my car just driving it to the grocery store, etc. Otherwise, I wouldn't even consider an SUV. If BMW sold 5 series AWD wagons here, that's what I would get, but they don't, so it's the X5. The outside styling is pretty much irrelevent. It's an SUV. It's kind of like arguing over which fat chick is prettier.

'Cause I'm a BMW fanboy. I like the interior. I like all the bells and whistles. I like the fact that even though it's an SUV, it will still handle better and go faster than most cars. I want to stick with BMW, and this will meet my needs and desires, even though I'm just not a big fan of the whole SUV concept. Just a thought on all the hair splitting analysis of the styling... If you want to get your panties in wad, feel free, but that says more about you than me.

The interior is much improved; however, I'm not loving the exterior--too X3, CRV-ish. Perhaps it will look better with 20"s...
I wish I had the same attraction to this as I do the all-new RR Sport, but being a BMW fanboy, I imagine this may grow on me--maybe? OT--Audi, just bring over the RS4 avant and I'll replace my X5d in a heartbeat

To be fair, there are definitely fat chicks prettier than others, and if you have to choose one, you'd prefer the prettier one and make the best of it.
At the end of the day, people will get over it - they always do. BMW likes to stir things up with each of their revisions, and this is no different than any other. |

Well, I don't think that this formula works very well, unless there is 400 lbs of extra equipment in US spec E70. Here are some weight specs for E70 xDrive50i from BMW websites:
BMW USA - Unladen = 5379 lbs (2445 kg) BMW UK/Deutschland - Unladen (EU) = 2265 kg (4976 lbs) Quote:

they are trying to make it look as angled as e70 while trying to add more headroom for 3rd row seats (or more lugguage *******. its a good cause but it makes the back way too boxy if 3rd row seating is not needed x3 is better imho.

I think the F15 looks awesome. I was iffy about the rear lights but if you watch the video of the new X5 the rear actually looks pretty good in motion.
The interior is light years better than the outgoing model which to me was always its weakness. I always liked the current X5 but the interior looked and felt cheap to me which is why i went with the F10. This is high on my list as my next car. Just want to wait for the 2nd or 3rd year before jumping in so Bmw can iron out issues and hopefully the next generation Inline 6 turbo will debut by then (N55 successor) Alan

It looks way worse than the current model, exterior-wise. The headlight designer must have Parkinson's disease, that headlight shape is a total trembling mess, not attractive at all. Not to mention the M-Sport front bumper...what's that ?
Also the whole car looks heavier and bulkier, it doesn't look sporty and purposeful anymore. |

After looking at the videos, I think the X5 still looks very handsome, the black one it the video looks really high end. I think darker colors will just suit this generation better. The only thing I wish they would have added was an automatic opening for the rear clam shell doors. I know the upper one is auto, but I wish they both opened when you press the key fob. Does anyone know if you can open the rear ala 3 series, by waving your foot under the bumper? That would seem like a brainless thing to add to the SAV range doesnt it?
