As Gtz1wickedest says you'll have to go down in the aspect ratio on the tires, but you can get 21s onto the e70 if you desire.

Question - I have factory 21" on my X6M wrapped in the pilot super sports that came with them.
If I go to a 20" aftermarket wheel and the corresponding taller tire sizes for 20", will the turn-in become slower with the taller tire or is the difference too small to notice? I would like lighter wheels but I'm not sure how the handling aspects change when going to a smaller wheel with taller tire. Thanks for your input. |

Hi All,
Some advice please. I have heard that the Michelin PS4S do not have sizing compatible with the 21" OEM. To my reading of it, on the OEM sizing, there is a 5mm (0.7%) diameter variance. If we leave the rears the same and drop in a 275/35R21 front size, there should be a 3mm (0.3%) diameter variance between front and rear (though in the opposite direction as the 285/35 are slightly bigger than the rears and the 275/35 are slightly smaller). Will a 325/30R21 and 275/35R21 mixed set work without issue? Both of those sizes are available in the PS4S. |

On an X5M, 275 is below minimum spec recommendations. |

Thanks for the response, I appreciate the info. Do you know why the 275 would present a problem? I had heard before that it was out of spec for summer rubber, but, for the life of me I dont understand why.
I have been running 275/40R20 square as winter tires for the past 3 seasons and I havent had any issues. Is there something inherently different about the way the onboard computer reacts to summer vs winter conditions? I get that I will have less lateral grip with a narrower section width, but, considering how heavy the rear bias is and that the rears are much wider Im skeptical about how much of a problem that will be. |

So I assume I'm able to put the conti DWS on my OEM rims (e.g. remove the 285/40R/20 and 325/35R/20 from the OEM rims and place 275/40r20 and 315/35r/20 on for winter or all season driving)?

Anyone on here know which tires sizes would work best on 22x10 Front & 22x11 Rear?

A few different sizes will fit, but you need to see what is actually available. There has been limited supply of 22" rubbers for our cars. Many of the majors (Pierlli, Michelin, Goodyear, etc) don't make them or you need to import international (Continentals) for them. You can find Toyo and Verdenstein.s in the US.

If Dunlop, Michelin or Pirelli aren't available I would go with Vredestein. Which sizes do you recommend?

Double check as you may be able to find the PZeros in these sizes. |

those were the sizes i found without going into custom and then that would delay installation to a point where i may be ditching the vehicle.

22" rim question
I am about the same as the guy above on rim size, however I found another size that I was thinking about.
I have done a ton of research on this, and ready to pull the trigger on what size, but I wanted to get last minute opinions. So I just bought some 22" rims for my X6M. 10" wide up front, 11" in the rear. Factory front 275-40-20 Factory rear 315-35-20 So, the perfect sizes to get, to get about as close to factor circumference and aspect ratio between front and rear is: Front - 285-30-22 Rear - 295-30-22 However, I want just a tad more tire for a little more rim protection, and a tad better ride. So I am thinking of the following sizes: Front - 265-35-22 (thinner than factory) Rear - 315-30-22 These sizes keeps the front to rear ratio at less than 1% difference so no error codes or anything like that, that I can tell... However it will be giving me a tad over 2" full circumference (1" taller sidewall), but just over 2% bigger than factory. My speedo would not even be off by 2 mph. So the question, if I do go the bigger set, which is more or less just 1 size up from factory, will I cause any real issues with gearing or computer stuff? I get it that my speedo will be off just a tad, but its not like I am putting dramatically bigger tires up, heck most could not even visually tell the difference. I do realize I will loose some performance, which is fine, this is purely for the looks of it. If I need to go fast, or winter time I will be putting the factory wheels back on, not like I am getting rid of them or anything. Any real cons to going with the slightly bigger tires? Or a tad thinner front tire? |

Also a side note, the place where I bought the wheels said they use 295-30-22 front and 335-25-22 rear. That is .25" smaller rear, and .94" bigger in the front. I would believe that would cause issues, not to mention I don't want to actually lose diameter in the rear.

First off factory spec is 285/40-20 and 325/35-20 so that's what you want to compare your 22" against. 275 and 315, make me wonder if you are running DWS, which are not factory recommended but a good all season option that people swap to. Is that what you are running or some other all season option? 265/35 is actually going to give you less rim protection and a thinner sidewall for a rougher ride which is exactly opposite of what you stated you desired. With a 295/30-22 front and 335/25-22 rear compared to factory spec, you actually have no effect on the front diameter and just gain in width. The front sidewall will be reduced by about an inch, so you may have a rougher ride up front. Rears get a smaller diameter by 0.4" which will have negligible effect on your speed; progressive graduated change up to 1mph up to speed of 70mph. Again you get the gain in width and reduction in sidewall, this time by about 1.2" less sidewall. This is probably the most advantageous set-up in comparison to factory as it has the least overall change from factory spec. |

So, more or less the 295-30-22 front and 335-25-22 rear is the best size? Seems like a 305-30-22 would be a better rear size, but I doubt many tires around in that size that would match the front. |
