I made a video showing the disaster of the stock suspension. Here in a traffic jam, moving 5 mp/h and the car is still shaking. So much of a premium car and all the money spent.

I really wish I had read this thread before buying my X5 50i with base suspension. It's entirely my fault because I've owned many sports cars in the past, including my current F80 M3, and suspension should've been the top priority when I was looking for a SUV (somehow I thought since it's a SUV, sports suspension isn't needed).
I bought the fully-loaded M-sport X5 last year (literally every option EXCEPT for DHP!) from a dealer who gave me a very good discount. When I test drove the car for 20 minutes, the suspension felt compliant, but now looking back I think it was because the roads near the dealership were good and didn't have many bumps and potholes. The first month of ownership was also ok as the car was purchased for my father and he drove most of the time. As soon as I started driving the car more, I noticed the bounciness and unsettling nature of the suspension. My wife, her sister, and I took a trip from San Francisco to LA and her sister sat in the back. 30 minutes into the trip she complained about nausea. Knowing that my wife is also prone to getting carsick, I asked her to be the driver and put my sister-in-law in the front and myself in the back. 30 more minutes later, I started feeling a little uncomfortable in the stomach as well from all the bounce in the rear. Mind you, I don't ever get carsick or seasick after childhood, and this is the first time that happened. Now that my wife and I are expecting a baby, I do not want to put our baby through this and get sick. Since I love the rest of the car so much and trading the car in for a new one with DHP would mean over $10k in loss due to depreciation, I decided to place an order for KW V3 coilover since I had good experience with it before on another car. My only worry is that the coilover will make the ride too stiff which may not be a good feeling when carrying a full car of passenger, but I'd rather have the car be stiff than bouncy. I still love the car a lot and it served well the purpose of taking us on multiple snowboarding trips and carrying the in-laws and relatives with many luggages. Once the coilover is installed, I expect to love it as much as my M3.

Try putting 100 lbs of concrete in the spare Wheel department. It took a few months but then my car softened up. Never had this experience with any vehicle Before but its smoother now. Still kinda rough but at least I dont get carsick driving 20 minutes to work any more.

F15 Swap for DHP
Quote:
I lost some dollars - but wasn't going to be able to settle for the new F15 standard suspension - felt like a Buick of old. Stuck with 2016 for discounts, .9% on purchase and get the full coverage maintenance which is now optional for 2017 (saving of $3,500 at 50K miles) Huge lessons learned. |

Anyone have thoughts on how the 40e handles compares to the other options? Mostly concerned about the nausea others have mentioned.
I know it won't handle bumps and corners as well as an X5 with DHP since it isn't available. The rear air suspension is standard though (likely due to the battery adding some 300lbs to the tail) and that seems to be the middle ground for a lot of folks. |

Can someone comment on the difference between DHP ($4500) and the 2VF option ($900) you can add with the msport?
Im certain I dont want the stock suspension, but curious what people feel about the 2VF. Is it a night and day difference between 2VF and stock? Will this suffice in terms of ride comfort? (im not slaloming this car, but I want to make sure this car is supremely comfortable even with the 20" wheels). Im also changing the tires out on day 1 to non-rf's - the dsw06's. Any commentary is appreciated. Thank you. =) |

Now if I could figure out a way to have the chassis default to sport w/o me having to push the button every time I start the X5 I'd be happier...

Quick question. Are dealers only allotted a certain number of X5s with the DHP? My salesman really pushed during the negotiation process to get me to move off of the DHP...but perhaps he was thinking that I was negotiating to get to certain price.

Always Get Dhp
Dealer pushing you off DHP because you have to order it since they don't stock on the lot due to the high cost at $4,500. Skip anything BUT DHP.
Like many here, I foolishly ordered minus DHP. My test vehicle had third row seat which gave it default air suspension. I drove non-DHP for 30 days and ordered a replacement with DHP. I ate the loss - and BMW USA ate some on my trade (I bought - not leased). DHP makes this a different vehicle. The stock suspension on the E70 is superior to the stock suspension on the F15. Do yourself a favor and order DHP....you will be hard to find one to test drive since dealers don't want to risk the cost. |

I'm in the market of buying a x5 35i, but I literally cannot find a single CPO M-Sport that doesn't have standard suspension. What am I missing here? Is the m-adaptive suspension or DHP this rare? I've got to be missing something here.....

When I was searching it was the same thing. DHP and M-adaptive are hard to find. I think because they are expensive options when new so most people didnt opt for them. Keep the search up...it took me a month and a half to find one that worked for me.

Don't give up. Although i will say it is easier to find in the 50i than the 35i at least form what I've notice from searching for the past 2 months. Finally got one locked down fully loaded '14 with everything but night vision. Full DHP and Active steering, Bang 'n Olufsen, nappa, ACC, Surround view, 20" M wheels, 4 zone climate, and cooled seats (which I didn't want because i prefer the look of the non cooled nappa seats to the one with all the holes for a cooled seat that barely functions but hey i was tired of looking and was happy to get some items i wasn't even looking for! Bottom line is it can be found, just have to be patient and perhaps expand your search and get dealers to throw in shipping or be willing to drive to get what you want. I found a dealer that threw in shipping at cost for mine.

Wife and I just purchased a 2015 X5 3.5 and it came with 2VM and 2VP - what exactly does that mean? Car is not m-sport, but xline. Can't figure out if that's DHP or just DDC.

I bought a non dhp f15 for a slamming deal, suspension doesn't bother me too much as I have an m3 as well.
Anyone have experience with the Bilstein b6 strife and the aftermarket springs re: eibach to stiffen up the car?

Adaptive M suspension makes driving your X5 very enjoyable and fun. DHP makes the X5 worlds different. Base X5 is just bouncy. This to me is my opinion.
