Talked to tirerack again.....they strongly recommend NOT mixing the two MPSS / MP S4's. They maintain differences in compound are enough that they don't mix well at all. Don't know why they would be less than candid as I'd get from them no matter which way mixed or pure I got.
Well, talked to & texted with Michelin and got one yes you can and one "yes but "response. So far I'm unable to find MP4S size out of the several available for fronts. To be fair these young ladies were"customer care folks", not necessarily well informed. But, being like a dog with bone, I pursue this tomorrow as it is "wine time" right now! Well, I've gotten all specs...MP4S v MPSS...couple of issues pop up...will MP4S's 295s fit front wheel well when mounted ( 4/10 inch wider when on a 10.5 rim- believe mine to be 10.0" & 2/10 taller{ I doubt this is issue}) & tread depth of 8/32 front and 9.5 rears versus 10/32 f & r on MPSS. This infers to me that the MP4S with less tread depth than MPSS , a claimed 9% greater tread life that the compound must be harder and I'm not looking for a bit harder ride or less grip overall.. despite what TireRack tests says. Long and short, I guess I will do the MPSS's unless someone can show me error of ways. It got too complicated on looking at this with mixed MPSS/MP4S on f & r axles unless someone out there can straighten out my paralysis by analysis on this. One more edit...figured out MP4S are on 2020 X5///M, but with 315's on rear & 295's on front, so the only issue becomes will there be interference issues in wheel wells front or back. ANYONE know how to sort this out? Final edit on this subject and I SURRENDER to MPSS, JUST REALIZED 2020 have 21" f /22" rear in order to use MP4S's, not going to buy two more wheels. |

I have the stock 20 inch 611 wheels with Pirelli P Zero. The fronts are down to 3.3mm and the rears at 5.5mm. By the end of Summer the fronts will need replacing. I don't want to go through the hassle and expense of getting 21 inch 612 wheels so am looking for tyre options for the 611.
I believe the Pirelli's are giving me the tramline effect on steering at higher speeds, which make motorway cruising not enjoyable when you have a bit of a cross wind - never had the problem in my old E70 40d with 20 inch rims. Plus they are really expensive. For the same setup of 285 fronts and 325 rears, I can get Continental Sport Contact 6 which are £80 ($100) cheaper per tyre. Or do I drop down to 275/315 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S? |

If you can do it , after the math of rolling circumference deltas, go with either MPSS or MP4S's. The MPSS's have given me 16,000 with at least another 6,000 to go. Four wheel alignment and weekly pressure tests ( 36# is mfgrs recommended..I'm doing 39#) and side to side rotations. MP4S have less tread depth, but claim about 9% more life...draw your own conclusions here.

M611s on E70
Hello all,
After reading through this entire thread I answered most of my questions except the following. I am buying a low mileage 2011 X5 35d with the Sport Package so it has the 20” sport wheels with the standard tires of 275/40/20 up front and 315/35/20 In the rear. The deal I made was to have a new set of M611 wheels with Pirelli P Zeros mounted in replacement of the standard sport wheels. The P Zeros are 285/40/20 up front and 325/35/20 in the rear. I now understand that since the delta is still within range this setup will work but will make the speedo off by a fraction of a mile. Can and should this be addressed with any reprogramming of the ECU? The question I have remaining is in regard to the difference in the wheels. The Y spoke sport wheels are 10 x 20 with a 40mm offset up front and 10 x 11 with a 37mm offset in the rear. The new M611s are 10 x 20 with a 40mm offset up front and 11.5 x 20 with a 38 mm offset in the rear. Will there be any problem with the additional .5 inch width and 1 mm offset of the M611 rear wheels? |

You shouldn't get a problem, because people who have 21 inch 612 drop down to 20 inch 611 for winter setups and the circumference is slightly different, but is within the magic 1% between front and rear axles.

21” rim 612M set for BMW x5m 2018
Is there anybody know where i can buy a genuine 21” rim 612M set F/R? I have a winter set of wheels and would like to buy a summer and rainy set of rims and tires. I would appreciate any suggestion please. Thanks a million. I’m a newbie

2013 E71 BMW X6 M - New Shoes Question
Hi There,
Firstly thanks for your post, I greatly appreciate people who are willing to put their knowledge out there to help us simpletons like me. :-) My question is this, I want to put the New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my car but they only make the 285/30/21 not the recommended 285/35/21 and so I would be running 325/30/21 on the back and 285/30/21 on the front, no stagger as such both will have the same profile... Do you think not having the 35 profile on front will be a problem? I don't want to run super sports which do offer the exact BMW recommended set up of 325/30/21 rear and 285/35/21 front.. Thanks in advance.

Hey all,
Looking for a bit of insight from some of you more experienced/knowledgeable guys on dangerous tire conditions. Please let me know if the cracks found in between the tread of these tires means they should be replaced ASAP, or if this is not a contributing factor for seriously dangerous driving conditions. TIA.

I believe it would be. I live in the midwest (Missouri) and I have been told that some dealers put 275/35s and 315/30s on OEM 21 inch wheels due to the fact that Pirelli makes an all-season tire in that size.
What are you looking at? I was toying with dropping to 21s (from 22s) but wasn't sure what to do about the tire situation as I want to run all-seasons. |
