Where exactly does the iDrive software itself come from? Is it in the PSDZdata full data file? Or do I need to get it somewhere else?

Edit: I lied.. one more stupid question: If I were to pay the $30 for a 24 hour BMW TIS subscription, could I flash the update that way rather than digging through 500 different MEGA links and registering for dubious websites?

Okay i will do a favor for you. Calculate the TAL of ur car with psdzdata lite version using Esys 330 or up. then screen shot red areas under NBT then send it to me. PM me!

If u dont know what u re doing, i can always remote flash but its gonna cost you. Otherwise do what i say above and lmk!

I still need to post some more for my PMs to become active, so here's another post.

I see you and Shawn (especially Shawn, that dude seems to be a machine) posting all over helping people, and it's much appreciated.

I am desperately trying not to PlzBro my way along. I plan on owning the car for a while, so I really need to try and "learn to fish" myself. I'm working on getting E-Sys setup so I can get you the TAL. I managed to get a download for E-Sys 3.33 and PSdZData Lite "4.30.33". But now as I understand it, I need a Launcher or additional software.

The two most recommended ones seem to be FXX TM's Launcher Pro v5 and BimmerUtility. Launcher Pro seems to be just that - I understand that it provides a way for E-sys to actually work. BimmerUtility seems to be a front-end of it's own for e-Sys.

If I get BimmerUtility, can I still use e-Sys to flash the control units or do I need Launcher Pro to do this? The only guides I can find are from 5+ years ago, so some of these answers aren't very clear.

Okay, ended up getting BimmerUtility, and installed the version of eSys that came with it (3.38.2). Using the PSdZData Full 4.37.20. I can tell you it was definitely full because it was quite an ordeal dealing with a ~240 GB folder.

Got through 98% of your guide successfully. It was all fine until Check Software Availability. I got an error stating

Missing SWEs in PSdZData directory. [C201]

LMV_FR_0x19
          btld_00001d89-161-046-002

VDC1_0x76
          btld_00001c4e-005_002_000

Odd because I did not select those modules to be updated, only BDC_GW and HU_NBT2 (per the original guide saying you only need to update the modules that have prerequisites on HU_NBT2.

I'm going to guess this copy of PSdZData is messed up? Gonna suck to download that all over again

No. Just edit svt_soll and remove LMV and VDC1 and recalculate Flash TAL.

I would not flash BDC_GW either, even though it shows as a prerequisite.

Yikes, good to know! Thanks, guys. Given that I still really don't have an awesome grasp on what I'm doing - plus I just realized that I'm supposed to have a true dedicated flashing power supply connected (I don't own anything like that) - I should probably hold off until I learn more. Last thing I want to do is brick this car!

Well, I decided to yolo it with a normal battery charger. I only selected the NBT controller to flash this time, and it was eventually successful.

The first time, I didn't realize that the car would shut itself down after so long.. oops. Some guides said that you turn the parking lights on, but I knew that wasn't true because I had left them on before and it still eventually turned the car off. For dummies like me, you have to buckle the driver's seatbelt in order for the car to stay alive.

So the first flash had the whole car go black about 10% into it. I was panicked because I was sure I bricked the NBT. Fortunately, I tried the flash again, and it was able to successfully restart the flash:




I held my breath when it all finally rebooted, and I boom, I was on version Y! Broke out BimmerCode (because I have no idea how to FDL code in eSys or BimmerUtility yet). Set the flags and there we go!




I'm thrilled to finally have fullscreen CarPlay, it's so much better this way. Again thank you so much SaNGRia and Shawn! The guide here and your directions were perfect.

If this is too off-topic let me know and I'll delete, but I'm curious what else changes when going from something like version 'N' to 'Y'? Is it all bugfixes or are there other features that have been added?

I personally didn't notice anything major. I'm sure there are some bugs fixed somewhere, but I didn't spot anything.

I have never experience car turning off itself during flashing. And if i remember correctly i have not buckled up either. But what i did was , ignition was ON, while the driver door is closed and never opened or close during the flash. Good job flashing on "normal battery charger". I am waiting them to make a new update and hopefully integrate Android Auto just like they did on MGU.

Did you previously load custom FSC Codes (e.g. USB .bin or Feature Installer) and then just flash EVO head unit?

Yes, some time ago I had updated maps using a USB.

Well, that's why. Flash removed previously loaded EVO Patch, and now all your custom FSC Codes are Rejected / Cancelled.
