Prob no availability now, may have to wait until fall. Most people get a 20" winter set, 21" and wide is gonna be horrible in the snow.

Agree - my 20" Scorpion OEM setup did well this past winter.

On availability, winters usually come back on the market in Sept/October. I will say, DO NOT WAIT until it is too late. Had a Scorpion that needed to be replaced in Jan and it took 2+ weeks to find one.

On another note, a few people seemed to like the Yoko BluEarth 21" winters if you want to swap tires between seasons. I just found it easier to swap wheels between winter and summer, in addition to changing the staggered to 285's all around, which is why I bought the 20" OEM winter set.

Michelin production for the new season begins in January and is based on previous years demand. The 21" tires are then ready by mid to late February and begin to get sorted to the usual vendors and then start shipping out sometime around May (iirc). At that point folks like TR and company then take them into inventory and get them ready for the coming season while putting leftover (if any) tires on clearance. There is no other time when they are produced so whatever is sent out is the only available amount and once gone there is no more until January rolls around again.

Thanks all for the inputs. Spoke to Tirerack today they have Yokos Bluearth Winter V905 available but only rears as of now 325/30/21. They told me fronts 285/35/21 are in production now and will be released in the fall. Pirelli also will do the same with their Scorpion Ice/Snow run flat

Related, if you do a 20" winter and run a 21" summer setup, do you have to get the alignment redone each time you swap.

I had an argument with the dealer recently about this as they were adamant that a 21" alignment was different than a 20" one. I don't believe them, but haven't been able to verify...

My Yoko 21" winter tires are amazing. I just swap out my summer and winter tires. I wouldn't do 20" tires. Just my opinion. I almost settled for 20" tires after I couldn't find 21"...then one day I got lucky and called Tire Rack and a pair just became available in Dallas (a dealer returned them). SO HAPPY I got 21"...and didn't settle for 20.

I live in DC and I have my winter tires on from about Halloween till Easter. That's 5/6 months. Mostly for cold weather, some snow. They worked out perfect and grip is amazing. But driving the car for that long with 20" tires on my x6m??? NO WAY!! lol

Be patient, call Tire Rack and you will find a pair. Not even on sale yet.

I love how my Yoko 21" winter tires look!

definitely not going to find them now .. have to wait till production begins later in the year. however I have been running the pirelli scorpion snow and ice 21" staggered and they work flawlessly. anyone telling you the wider tire won't work has obviously not tried it.

I don't, and never heard of that with the OEM winter kit in all my research. My wheel/tire guy has never said to do that either and I have swapped on/off two years now.

Same with my F10, from 19" to 20" and vice versa.

In BMW's system there are different settings for the 20" and 21" wheels. You put in the year, model and equipment. If you choose 20 or 21 there are different settings on the machine. I can show you a photo later when I get in showing the different alignment specs. Some may argue the numbers are negligible but if some Engineer sat around tooling and dialing the numbers for either set I am going to go with it. Alignment is cheaper than replacing tires that have worn inner shoulders but new meat everywhere else.

I have them too. They make the car look even more aggressive. The downside I've noted is that it doesn't have sidewall protection and thus exposes the rim lip to scraps.

Nokian recently announced the R3, which I think might come in the right sizes. Won't be cheap, but they're without comparison.

Hmmmm...my Yoko winter tires fit the rims exactly the same as the stock tires it came with. No exposure at all.

My dealer knows I swap from 21" to 20" in winter myself and hasn't said a thing about it. There might be a small difference, but I think it's negligible. I'm pretty sure my dealer would have told me if it wasn't. Maybe they just want you to let them swap your wheels so they can charge you.

It boggles my mind that there is enough of a difference between the two that warrants a full-on alignment. Understand some small differences, but can't imagine it's big enough to throw your alignment into the red on the machine.

All-season 21" tires

Does anyone have any experience with any all-season tire replacements for the 21" set-up? I found some from Accelera, but I do not know much about them.

Thank you,
Brian

all-season means they do not well in any season. go for a dedicated set otherwise you may regret it.
