Burbles and pops on stock 50i

What's up guys, just a guy here having fun with his 50i. I just figured out how to do the pop pops (SVIPE, lol) without a tune. I've read some places where they said it's not as easy as it is on the 6cyls, but it seems like just tapping on the gas pedal while on decel above 2k rpm, gives you the same crackles a tune will. I'm not the smartest when it comes to car stuff but I think this is a good cheap way lol if you wanted that type of exhaust sound. Also should mention, I don't have the rear muffler, just two straight pipes that replaces it. Here's a sound clip of it from my dash cam

While I keep having delays in my custom exhaust progress, (finally got back the mid pipes with my custom made X pipe added, will install this weekend), I have been driving with two 90° pointed towards the ground, under the car. The "burbles and pops" are getting old fast. But hey, if you like it, enjoy!

The most annoying thing about M1 or M2 mode are these silly burbles and pops. Wish I could turn it off.

Couldn't agree more. Who decided that sounded good. I just want a good sounding oem exhaust note. How hard is that! Lol and I want it muted when I push my exhaust button like on every other performance car

Not a fan of them at all. I also have a feeling that the cops will soon start cracking down on the cars with all the cracks and pops (German cops in city centers like Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, etc already do). It will be another revenue stream.

Luckily, it only happens when I want it to (on sport transmission). This is my first nice sounding car (coming from a 4 cylinder benz lol) so I can imagine I will eventually get bored of it. In the mean time, I will be crackling away, lol.

Supposedly, here in NYC, they're going to initiate something called SLEEP Act (Stop Loud Excessive Exhaust Program). There's a lot of tuned Bimmers around the city with crazy amount of burbles and pops, some people think it's guns going off.

Not only BMWs, but lots of other brands (Audi, MB, etc.) all have burble and pop tunes and it is extreme in some cases. I know for a fact that NJ state troopers were called on several occasions where people thought that they were gun shots. What you have mentioned is something similar to what they do in most large cities in Europe, I guess. Friends of mine report that in Germany, police in the city centers (especially on Fri nights and weekends) set up check points to measure exhaust dB and they know most of the tricks and not let anyone use their valves closed settings of their aftermarket exhausts. They even ask to rev the car up to 5k rpm in sport mode and let go the gas pedal abruptly to detect any pops and cracks.
I love a nice throaty exhaust note and it is something that we are used to in the US, but when people go to extremes and the manufacturers follow them like in some AMG models, etc., unfortunately there will be a negative reaction.

Lol they clearly have nothing better to do than setting up "exhaust stings". Good God cmon. How sad. LMAO

Lol, they're going to equip NYPD with decibel meters here. Also to be used for car audio, supposedly you're not able to hear audio from a car that's at least 50 ft away, if you do, excessive noise ticket.

Hmm thought NY was "defunding" the police....lol. Guess only in areas that matter.

Noise laws or not...
I'm sure my neighbors are not too impressed with my exhaust sound currently, even though no complaints yet. But I put the car in drive as soon as I start, to try to avoid too much of the cold start loudness.

I'm heading up to my shop in a bit, to reinstall the mid pipes with the added X-pipe. Then moving the 90° bends to behind the rear axle. Hopefully that will tame things a little bit, until I get to finish cutting/adjusting the last bends, and add new tail pipes. But more about that in the muffler delete thread at some point...
