Got an appt tomorrow for insurance to meet with dealer body shop. Hopefully can get there early to point out my concerns to the body shop so this doesn't become a battle of me v. Insurance.

Absolutely. Quality control issues must be addressed. Good luck!

Ya I actually just found that where the fender meets the a pillar next to the windshield and side mirror that it's not attached. Lol. I knew I should have pushed harder for them to replace that damn thing vice just heating it up and bending it back or whatever they did.

Just got back from meeting between insurance and bmw dealer body shop and finally I have some support. I had a chance to go over the car and point out all the poor workmanship that I felt was not acceptable and the body shop manager completely agreed. He noted every little nuance I had and assured me they would go over every inch with a fine tooth comb to fix what the other shop mucked up. Even if they have to replace parts. They're gonna do their best to wet sand everything and if that doesn't work then they'll strip it all and start from scratch. Even reminded the insurance guy I would need a car and that he'll just add that cost to the estimate to make it simple. Insurance had nothing to say but ok
Sounds good. Send me the estimate.

Well just heard back from the dealer body shop. $4500 because he is going to have to redo everything the original body shop did. Apparently they missed some damage to a couple spots behind the bumper. Missed some damage to the hood. They're having to replace the fender now cuz he took it off to inspect and found it to actually be cracked underneath. Found when they installed the fender liner the broke most the pins and didn't install it correctly. Oh and they are repainting they entire hood and bumper. And going to properly blend the front door to the quarter panel.

Yay me.

$26000

Ugh...that just makes me sick. Nice that they'll cover the cost of getting her fixed correctly, but it doesn't replace the loss of the use of the car. Or all the hassles. Hang in there.

I had minor rear end accident on my X5 where it damaged the rear bumper and resulted in my head-restraint to go off. Everything was repaired to spec. ( M performance exhaust, M performance diffuser included ). However, it took me 3 months to get my car back because a new headrest in Terra Dakota was on back order. The other party insurance did provide a rental ( audi A4 ) during the X5 absence though.

Lol ya well it's only $26k because they let some hack job of a body shop touch my car. They lied about parts they replaced, broke a bunch of stuff, and then didn't repair a bunch of hidden damage.

Told my body shop how much cost we're at and he told my insurance rep that he is shocked it's not a total yet due to state law. Needless to say my current rep (I've had a million at this point) was unaware and came in to do an estimate and told them to stop all work.

So now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand if they don't then I'm stuck with a ~$30k car with a wreck which leaves me upside down on it for ever. And if they total then I have to go through all the head ache of "quickly" finding a new car when Idk if I want another X5 much less an suv. My wife wants an suv soon but isn't quite ready. My payments aren't quite in the ball park for her. And I don't want 2 suvs. Plus I'm supposed to deploy any week now. Ugh. I had tons of time to prepare when i bought my X5 lol. Research and research until I found the perfect one. And it did me justice. But now. I feel F'ed.

You need to get in touch with wreck check.
http://wreckcheckcarscan.com/index.html

They can do the diminished value for you properly. They can deal with the shop for you and make sure your car is fixed properly

These guys are the best. I'm not sure where you live but there is a location in Virginia. Good luck with the repairs.

Insurance companies usually don't deal with situations like yours properly. You deserve proper assistance which is why I've seen you're a very active member here and I'm trying to point you in the right direction. These guys saved me last year when a shop was trying to screw me and the insurance. It sounds similar to your story. Anyways one letter from these guys (wreck check) and everybody had a completely different attitude. It doesn't hurt to give them a call. They are VERY CONSUMER FRIENDLY.

Because it's state law. Regardless of what the insurance company spent to repair it, if the value of the repair exceeds 75% of the value it must be totaled in the state of VA

Lol just heard the insurance told the body shop to continue repairing the car. FML. Now I wish I would have gone for the M front bumper since I'm gonna be stuck with her for the foreseeable future. Glad I got that extended warranty to 100k miles.
