Ambient lighting

Hi guys, new to the forum, just picked up a 2016 F85 in Donnington grey on black. I love this beast !

With the ambient lighting I can get it to be one color but as soon as I ask it to do, say, blue, white, white it just stays blue.
Also, why won't it do blue, white, orange for example ? Seems it only does two colors when you ask it to do a "cycle".

What am I missing ?

Thanks

I wonder if the previous owner coded the ambient lights. If they used an app like Bimmercode, it requires exchanging the standard ORANGE setting to create a different color selection. You wrote that you can’t select orange for one of your choices…so this may be the reason you can’t get the colors you are tryin to get.

Are there any other indications that a previous owner did any coding like the absence of warning on the iDrive display at start up of for the cameras when activated or no seat belt warnings etc? These are some things that many owners code off that are supposed to be standard features.

As mentioned above, it sounds like your ambient lighting was coded. I recommend getting Bimmercode and code it yourself to your preference.

Yeah, mine says things like Blue/White/White or Orange/White/White

But not, orange/white/blue for example.

I can select each color individually but the combos don't work and there are no combos of three different colors.

Also, if I select a combo that I "do" have like orange/white/white it just stays orange.....at least for ten minutes before I give up.

Is this something that I would find using Protool ? I have the coding license from my other car (135i)

Thanks !

Post a pic of what your seeing.

You mentioned the lights don't cycle, I'm not 100% but I don't think they do that. Those Blue/Orange/White is a colour combo for the zones. Ie, dash+top of door is Blue, the Door Pocket is Orange and foot well is White.

If you choosing Orange/White/White, but all 3 zones are orange or you only have Orange in the top zone is on. It could be the zones were re-coded to something custom or the LEDs are broken.

For eg. I coded my Blue/Blue/Blue to be Blue/off(door pocket)/off(footwell)

As per the vid above, you can use bimmercode/esys to check this.

I’ve heard of ProTool but I’m not familiar with what it can do. You would know more than those of us that don’t have that software/hardware/app (I don’t even know what it is exactly).

Were you able to do any coding with ProTool on your 135? Do they have a website or instructions or a owners manual that explains what all it can do?

This makes more sense now. I was under the impression that the red/white/white for example would make the lighting start red then progress to white....I hadn't realised it meant lighting zones .... duh. Thanks, it seems to work as it should.

I was actually given protool and had limited success with it. I bought it mainly to turn off the passenger seat chime for when I put my laptop bag on it.....then I couldn't find the part that addresses that so I have only mainly used it to read codes etc.

They have a face book group though so there are lots of helpful people in there if you use FB and join the group.
