that's for sure ... i know that once you change the downpipe size you have to re-tune the engine too But than CAI, PP turbo's ... another fuel pump ...etc once you start never cant stop. Also, cat always better than catless for daily drive street car. x5 it is not made for racing ,BUT we can make it more enjoyable.like i said , i was just curious what will be if ....

Just do it the way we did it and you will be fine and love it. I wouldn't mess with the cat and resonator. Just put in the x-pipe and remove the exhaust.

Throw in one of the new ecu flash tunes and you will have a beast. This is where I am drawing the line this time with my build. A 600hp SAV that sounds mean and looks good is all I want it to be. Ill save my money for a few years and get a used R8 or something as my toy.

I got BPC (Bimmer Performance Center) Stage 1 tune and they just released Stage 2 (it's not on their website yet). I think any Stage 1 tune should bring 50i to x5m level as there's 120hp difference roughly and that's about how much you get with Stage 1 (give or take)

The reason I chose BPC is because they were first who offered DME flash on the market for n63tu. Also, they currently hold record for fastest diesel BMW in the world. IMHO they are #1 in US/Canada but I may be biased
It's my 4th car with a Burger tune so I'm familiar with how it works. For some reason newer cars don't respond, even Terry confirmed this.
You are correct, the delta in HP is too great for a stage 1 tune to match, but it's the torque that compensates and surpasses the X5Ms figures.

Question is, would you do this to a leased car??

Muffler delete and obd flash are both reversible to stock, but of course couple weld lines will be visible on exhaust piping - I'm not familiar how picky dealers are during lease return about things like that and what's the proper procedure

However, driving 2-3 years with stock silent exhaust and on stock tune - I couldn't do it, too much sacrifice imho

would you renovate an apartment you're renting? do you detail loaner cars or rentals on vacation? why would you spend money modifying or improving someone else's property?

For the cost, I think most of us would probably take the $300 and burn it just to have the V8 rumble, shift pops and turbo whistle. It would probably be the least amount of money I've lost modifying cars.. lol

This mod is definitely best bang for the money. The only question is if dealer will make you pay for new exhaust during lease return - not sure. Worst case scenario brand new rear portion of exhaust (rear muffler with pipes and tips) is about $1000 from BMW dealer (+ 2hours of labor cost) https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...307645677.html

You can just keep the muffler and weld it back on before turning it in. I mean it depends on whether you modify your stock exhaust or actually just cut it off.

Correct. I meant welding seams will be noticeable and dealer may ask to replace exhaust with brand new. I'm not sure, I'm just speculating, I've never leased, I always bought my cars

ok folks, i have just return from muffler shop. put magnaflow x-pipe and the shop had black quad 4'' tha fit perfect. Now looks awesome and on idle perfect sound. When revving on P mode sound is so good .When start driving on lower RPM (4-4.5) it is just perfect but when i hit the gas hard and start accelerating fast on higher rpm sound is not deep at all and sound so cheap as old honda's (with all my respect to honda). So is just me having this problem.... is it because of the pipes and the tips ?!?

Give it some time (from my experience it needs around 400 miles to be driven) - ECU will adjust for flow change and sound on higher revs will become more mellow. However, I liked that sound even before it adapted, it wasn't Honda like, Honda is too high pitch, but I think I know what you mean. Right now at WOT (wide open throttle) your ECU is still operating with old flow specs and it's not as refined. It should adapt and get more refined, it won't be a very strong change, but noticeable and I think you'll like it

Pics? Not sure on the sound at full throttle. Sounds great to me...nothing like a Honda. DusH is right, I've noticed a slight change in the sound since install. Sounds great.

Looks great. Do you mind to share the shop info? You can PM me. I travel to Chicago a lot so maybe I will use your shop. The shop in my area (not really, it's an hour away) isn't that responsive about the build.
