2.What services are affected?As a result of the sunset of 3G service by wireless carrier partners, by February 2022, vehiclesfactory-equipped with 3G telematics devices or retrofitted 2G vehicles will no longer be able toreceive any ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist services.
Vehicles factory-equipped with 4G telematics devices will no longer have access to services that require a voice connection, such as BMW Assist eCall and Concierge Services, but will continue to receive certain ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist services such as Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information, Remote Services and BMW Online, depending on your BMW model. So what they are saying here is if you were to have a 4G telematics device in the vehicle E-Call (SOS) and BMW Assist (roadside assistance) will no longer work? Am I reading that right? Probably the main reason I would want to upgrade was because of E-Call (SOS) It helped my wife a few years ago when she was in an accident. I just dont get BMWNA not supporting what they sold. Must have an upgrade path (that is complete) or they lost a patron. |

I have a SiriusXM sub but I dont know if it includes Traffic. Will take a look and if I have it included I will give the coding a try. I do have ARTTI payed and working on the car at this point though.

Hi! I have sent several emails to connected drive support asking for complimentary rtti as some received here. And I just got this answer. This answer for one my car that had rtti in the past. Still asking about another car that never had that subscription.
And I am asking, still, if that affects European 3g bmw cars. |

Unfortunately, companies like BMWNA only respond to class action litigation and public shame because they have a brand to protect. Completely dumbin out a car less than 5 years old is just wrong and unethical. It's like Apple saying hey, your iPhone from 5 years ago won't be able to connect to the internet no more.

Just called BMW and was told we are eligible for tech upgrade (2016 F80) so will be calling the dealer to get it done.

Good… they posted an update.
Now waiting on letter 🤞🏽 I don't see why they would let any F version not receive the upgrade. However, not all vehicle years come out with the same version of iDrive at the same time so definitely some might be screwed. This might be the case for people whom were upgraded from 2G to 3G. BMW might not want to keep upgrading those cars for sure. |

I just contacted BMW NA to check if I qualify for the technology upgrade and they said no.
My car is a 2015 BMW X5. I asked her what is the cutover year and she said 2016 and up quality for this upgrade. I'm bummed about it. |

Hmmm. The 2015 we bought in January was originally optioned with this. Maybe I'll shoot a note off to Connected Services and see if I can get service until the shut down next year.

Been lurking here for a bit now and was working on getting connected drive to work in X5 50i MY2014 today and I made some calls. I talked to BMW customer relations and they told me that I was not eligible for an upgrade and would loose that capability in Feb 2022, they then said that I could talk to BMW Assist and see what they could do. After sitting on hold for a while I got a hold of somebody there. After talking to him for a bit he looked up my vin and said that there should be a update available for me and I should call my local dealer to get the update. Unfortunately by that time the dealer was closed.

I understand fully that it is a hardware issue. They didnt say anything about software, just that there is a update needed and the service department could help make that happen.
