So, just went to the dealer... turns out the "flange" in the crankshaft assembly has cracked. So they will be changing the whole crankshaft assembly..

First off, how the heck does a crank just crack. They're made of strong metal and forged.
They don't just crack. That sounds fishy. I'd ask to see a picture of the crack.
And these same yahoo mechanics are going to change the crank in the shop? The likelihood the mechanics check all clearances, and torque everything properly is slim to none. Id be requesting a short block engine. Or ask them to buy your ride back and abort.

I saw the image, it's like a hairline crack, where the bolt goes in. I am suspecting, when they changed the rear main seal, and the tranny was pulled down.. and while putting it back they cracked it. Who knows? How do you make a case of requesting a short block engine?

Get it fixed then trade it before you even take it off their property. There is no way I would have confidence that the engine will be reassembled properly.

The loss won't be easy, but I couldn't drive it thinking about the next thing that will go.

Update: so they are replacing the complete engine. Will they give a refurbish or a new one? Will they also reset the mileage?

Almost positive it will be new. And no they won't reset the mileage.

Gotcha, was thinking selling it. Wondering would this increase the value of the vehicle. LOL

I was reading some posts, where they put in new remanufactured engines. Can anybody direct me where the dealership installed a brand new engine?

Speaking personally, I would rather not have a car that had it's engine replaced. Brings up too many questions. Was the original engine ruined to owner neglect?. Who did the work and were they as diligent as a fresh factory install?

So when i was topping off my oil when it tells me its at minimum i notice oil spot on the passenger side turbo(n63) could this be a big issue down the road and coust this be the cause of it eating oil? It tells me to top it off about onece a year between oil changes.
