Here it is people, the latest and greatest. Just got off the phone with BMWofNA. This is the page they directed me to for updates. They said options are still being spoken about/assessed and any/all updates on this information will be published at the link below.

https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/connecteddrive.html

Navigate all the way down the page until you see

-Connected Drive Information

-3G Cellular Technology Discontinuation - Frequently Asked Questions

This is what was published last week in reference to the matter. Check the date up top to know if it's an update. This one is from March 1st.

https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/b...pdf/3G_FAQ.pdf

Line 3 is looking promising, as my services end 2024🤷🏽

Yep my remote services contract expires 4/30/2024 (looks like everyone got a 10 year contract from the factory), so if NBT units were used till mid 2016, some contracts will last till 2026. Feels like BMW did not think through this well before pulling the plug on us.

I would agree the consumer relations agent I spoke with explained they are inundated with angry customers regarding services. Hopefully they resolve this soon

Yea my bmw i3 only has the ability to use connected app and I can lock unlock and precondition and my X5 has all that plus I can access bmw online.

And both are 3G, funny how they are picking and choosing which ones can have access and witch ones cannot.

Hopefully they have a fix.

I like being able to warm and cool my cars in the winter and summer!!!!

Funny I lost the ability to have RTTI on the navigation. On my X5, still have the bmw online and cell phone connection

Was bummed, now with my Apple car play just found out google maps has real
Time traffic flow and just about the same thing.

And it's free!

So not so worried now.

Is there a way I can check how long my remote services is good for?

I have 2016 F15 and real time traffic expires 3/19/21. Unfortunately, as expected, I cannot renew either.

Log into your connected drive account and check. If your RTTI is no longer working- do us all a favor and e-mail Connected Drive customer service and call BMW NA and complain. More people bother them, faster they come up with solution.

Hey Everyone!

I have some good news. They are certainly trying to resolve this. Not in the most logical fashion but none the less they are.

I received an email mid last week from ConnectDrive stating they have reenabled my services complimentary. They noted that there was no guarantee as to how long they will work near or beyond February 2022.

I am intrigued that there is already a replacement part identified. Sad they are not simply rolling out the options.

Well that's nice of them. I have also exchanged a few emails with BMW Connected Drive but so far no "complimentary" offers or solutions.

The fun thing, I had a subscription for my 435 01/2020 - 01/2021 and was about to extend it but missed a moment. And it looks like the service would disappear in a month if I extended it in January 2021))).

Do you know any tools and/or modules that would transfer navi route tips/commands to head up display?

Don't really care about google/apple maps or waze, so I'll probably just have to learn to live without rtti.
I have the same concern and looking for an option to use navi with head up display.

Latest update was on March 1st. Nothing new has been posted.

https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/b...pdf/3G_FAQ.pdf

If anyone gets other information (emails, letter, any type of documentation) please post it so we can actually see it. Opinions are fine, but hard evidence is what everyone wants to see.

Received this email today. The way this sounds, there is no intent on finding a solution after Feb 2022, but maybe something will change.

"Dear ,

There are important ConnectedDrive service changes affecting your 2016 X5, Vehicle Identification Number ending in .

Due to a phasing out of the 3G network by cellular carriers, ConnectedDrive services can no longer be supported starting February 2022 for your BMW. The decision to phase out 3G network technology was made at the discretion of the respective cellular carriers and lies beyond the control of BMW.

We want you to be able to enjoy ConnectedDrive services for as long as they are supported for your vehicle, so a complimentary Connected Package Professional or BMW Assist Safety Plan subscription will automatically be activated for your BMW until February 1, 2022. Your vehicle will receive all services within the Connected Package Professional or BMW Assist Safety Plan subscription that it is technically capable of receiving.

To ensure you receive the complimentary services, you will need to “Update Services” via iDrive, as outlined below. If after performing an “Update Services” you do not have the services available to you, please contact BMW Assist Customer Care at 1‑888‑333‑6118 or customercare@bmwassist.com.

We regret that ConnectedDrive services will no longer be supported as of February 2022 for your vehicle but hope that you enjoy the complimentary ConnectedDrive services in the meantime.

Interesting, BMW should have done this in the first place instead of shutting down services without notice.

Hardly a long term solution and just delays the inevitable of broken technology in the cars that have the 3G hardware/technology. As I see it, this isn't a significant enough issue for BMW put some effort into really remedying the problem, therefore BMW will hedge its bets and gamble that it will retain its customer base.

See March 26 update at

https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/b...pdf/3G_FAQ.pdf

It’s appears we all get complimentary services until the 3G shutdown.

It implies they are investigating long term upgrade solutions.

Has any done the Option—>Update BMW Assist and see if you get RTTI working again with Navigation?
