So folks, after they "fixed" the rear main seal leak. I took my car for a road trip. After driving 700 miles... came back and checked, it is leaking AGAIN! So took it back to the dealer and this time around they said the leak from the FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. The advisor goes like, you know it is hard to detect these "leaks" because they are in the same area... and I was like really? Isn't that what you guys do for a living?? SMH..

You are right. I don't think they know what they are doing.

Why do you keep going back there? You're just asking to get ripped off, going to dealer for service when you're out of warranty.

This!

Few years back I took my 3 series for an oil change. Advisor comes out at the end of the service and informs me that my valve cover gasket was leaking badly. I was surprised since I just swapped out headers and didn't see any leaks. After getting home, I open the hood and side of the engine block was covered in oil as if the gasket was leaking. Big oil stain that got me very concerned, so I took off engine cover.

Turns out, tech spilled oil on the engine while filling it up. I am not sure if this was done on purpose or by accident, but ever since then I never ever ever would take my car to that dealership for service. This was not one instance of upselling / ruining things, but was the last straw. If you have warranty on the car, they can get you a whole new car by replacing one piece at the time as they keep pushing to replace anything and everything. I would not trust their work as they frequently left screws and bolts off the car. They are shady AF.

Dude, if you have the warranty, have them replace your valve cover gasket as well. I mean, it seems like they will be replacing everything, so might as well get it done as well. It will start leaking soon if it hasn't already. That would leave your oil housing gasket to be replaced.

BMW can't make / use quality gaskets. Almost every one of them starts leaking at around 60-70k miles.

Yea, I just asked and they said the valve cover gasket is good right now.

Your dealer is incompetent. You need to tell them so too. And find another dealer to go to.
This is not normal to keep finding leaks.

Thanks, seems like all the dealer techs are idiots. Does your car still have issues? I think people with warranties and CPO's are in a tough spot... they just have to use the dealership... Btw, I am in LA area and my dealership was New Century BMW. Good to know Buena Park is no good either.. my next option would be to go to BMW Monrovia... but I have heard horror stories about them too...

So today the dealer got back to me saying they found a small crack at the engine crank flange for flywheel after removing the tranny... "they were unable to identify this small crack from the last visit without removing the tranny. Now waiting for BMW's instructions on what components will be needed to correct this issue.

WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!

I seriously do not know who hires these clowns at dealerships but they are so unbelievably incompetent. I took my car in for a service at BMW Seattle and had an absolute misery of a time. Bunch of scam artists with very little knowledge.
