Agree. AC marginal
My 2015 x5D has marginal AC. I noticed it as soon as I drove it off the lot, after trading in my 2016 x5, which had fantastic AC. The AC on my 2002 was also really good.
Hear are the real prob with the AC Volume of air moved... Poor Air not cold enough to begin with Most annoying ... Poor air flow near my head, there is always hotter stlale air near the headliner. System is too loud. |

We just had a stretch of 95 to 103 degree heat here in the Pacific NW and my June/2016 X5 AC remained ice cold even with part of the air diverted to the 2nd row seats. I'm super happy with the AC performance and I'm very sensitive to heat. I keep my house at 66 degrees year round. If your X5 AC is not performing I say beat on BMW and the service dept until they fix it because the system is absolutely capable of performing well.

Same here, 95+ heat in Florida and the AC is phenomenal
I usually divert air to the 2nd row of seats MAX setting upon entering the car Within 5 minutes I switch over to auto and even in auto, I find myself inching up from 60 to 70/75 within another 5 minutes because it is so frosty (And I like cold temperatures. Don't know why I'm in Florida...) |

X6 M50d F16, New Aug-16, UK and Europe. Up to 34 degrees C (93 degrees F) outdoor temprature.
Really no problems at all. Vehicle cools down quickly and remains cold. |

AC Solved
Similar to everyone on this thread I'm suffering from week AC in my X6 50i, compared to my previous 2013 535i which had ice cold AC even for Dubai weather.
To improve your x6/x5 AC go to settings > Eco Pro > un-tick climate once done you'll notice, I would say, 25% improvement. But no where near previous generation BMWs. I hope this will help |

Damn, Damn, Damn
BMW X5 m50d 2014, black, with factory trailer hitch. 35C (95F) outside. I have to use Max AC (16C) for min 30 minutes to cool inside. After an hour is was cool. I've sold my E71 and when I've got the F15, I believe that the AC unit is broken. They said it's ok, but it's hot and the car is black. My wife has an Evoque diesel, also black, but no problems for her. The problems seem to be the low RPM in the city! If I accelerate the car, I get noticeable cooler air. After an hour, I used my IR thermometer and my vents were 14-15C (15F). Tomorrow I'll test both cars for 15 minutes with full AC on and I'll measure the vents temperature. Eco Pro is off, but anyway, that settings works ONLY if you use ECO mode! |

I had to add ~ 20% AC agent into the installation and the situation is now berable.
I do not need to use Max AC all the time. Today I'm scheduled for BMW service. Another problem is that the heat sensation is on the HEAD level. I've seen that if I use the manual button with UP direction (not auto), the air is hot on the windshield, not cold! Yes, my manual vents is in the blue position. |

All I have to say is my grocery getter 2003 Honda CRV with 160k miles pumps better AC compared to my 1 year old 17 X5 35i. I am also coming from a 535i f10, and that system wasn't good also. I just think BMW does not have a good climate system, and it's sad for a vehicle at this price point. Everything else is awesome though.

If your problem is volume of airflow it may be worth pointing out that my F15 does not operate like my old E53, which, when you put it in auto would do the lot - temp and air flow.
The F15 never seems to boost the airflow beyond the fan speed setting you select manually, even when you select auto. My experience is that if you set the fan speed to max whilst the climate is set to auto, it will use all available air flow if it needs to, but if your fan speed is set to anything less than that, it won't and will peak at your selected setting. |

My car is still in the shop.
The independent shop that checked my AC unit said last week that it needs to add 185g of AC gas (675gr needed - see the hood). I have the automatic receipt from their machine. I've watched the entire process; it does not really rocket science. Now, BMW told me on the phone that I had 900gr in the system - not good! With 900gr seems to work better, but not perfect, but still far from normal. No other problems! I really try to stay calm. |

This is going to sound odd given all the complaints I read, I have a 2016 X5 40e and I live in the DC area. I have never had to put the AC on max, I always have it on Auto with temp at 68 to start with then 74 because it gets freezing cold in the hottest summer day after about 5-10 minutes. I think everyone knows you are supposed to start the AC and open all the windows for few minutes when you first start the car. I have black on black and I have to park in the sun at work.

This AC is freaking horrible....I'm coming from Lexus where that AC gets cold immediately...for the kind of money BMW charges for the car you would think the AC would be a priority.

My (our) 2017 X5 sDrive 3.5 (Space Gray Metallic / Black Dakota) (build date 05/01/2017) had me quite concerned in the last couple of weeks with poor AC performance unless using the MAX setting. The airflow was very low and unable to keep up with the 90*+ (heat index well over 100*) days we've had lately.
Living in South Florida makes this a BIG deal. Additionally, my wife (it's her car) is sensitive to certain sounds, including blower noises such as an AC unit in a car or home. So she immediately began complaining about the system not cooling sufficiently and not wanting to use the MAX setting because the blower is too loud. I began researching here and got a pit in my stomach reading the many complaints of poor AC cooling. I was beginning to dread having leased this vehicle. Yesterday (8/6/17), we took a drive (about 100 miles) to run some errands, so I planned ahead a bit and decided to experiment by turning off the rear seat climate control (as suggested in several threads) to see if this would have an impact. I started the vehicle, set the AC for AUTO at 68* and made sure that the SYNC was NOT set. As I was removing the sunshade, the fan began blowing. I was expecting the (so far) paltry flow of air, nowhere near enough to cool the big interior on a 94* day. Lo & behold, the fan slowly kicked into high gear as our previous cars (2013 Volvo S-60 & XC-60) normally would. WOW! Pleasant surprise! At this point, I've done nothing at all in settings. I figure that I'll continue with my experiment and disable the rear climate control, although this is not ideal nor logical. I would think that it would contribute significantly to cooling the rear of the car. but who knows. I did note that there is a definite boost in air volume in the front a few moments after disabling the rear AC. Not Earth-shattering, but noticeable. After driving just a short while without MAX enabled, the car began cooling as I would expect it to...slowly but surely there was a cooling trend going on. Throughout the 4 stops, 70% highway traffic at ~80 mph (not an admission of guilt!) and 30% city driving, the interior was cooling. Again, this was a mostly sunny South Florida day with temps between 89* and 94* with strong sun. For now, I'll keep the rear AC off and we'll see how it goes. I'm going to keep checking on this thread and will continue to report back with any changes or additional findings. I'd like to express a debt of gratitude to those that have posted, especially if you're experiencing unsatisfactory cooling. |

UPDATE:
******* Learned a couple of interesting things today (although many of you may already know this)! First, is that you can adjust the fan speed even when AUTO is selected. In my previous vehicles (both Volvos), when you changed the fan setting the system dropped out of AUTO. I thought AUTO meant that the fan speed was controlled also. Nope! So I've set it to HI and left the controls at AUTO. Lesson #1 is to check the fan speed setting even if AUTO is engaged. Secondly, I had previously disabled the rear climate comfort in iDrive 2 days ago. Today while heading out for lunch, I was at a traffic light in 93* heat (heat index 106*) and decided to confirm that there was no air coming from the rear vents, which there was none. Being a fidgeter, I spun the temp knobs to full cool just to make sure there was no residual effect of them being possibly set to warm. After about 30 seconds (maybe less), the rear outlets began blowing air and the air volume in the front dash became lower. I parked and double-checked the iDrive settings. I found that the rear climate was enabled again. So lesson #2 is that you have to consciously remember to double check this, especially if you have passengers (or cargo) in the rear that may have touched the controls. After setting the fan speed at HI AUTO and making sure the rear climate was not blowing air, the car was able to start a cooling trend during the 10-minute drive back to work. IHTTH, YMMV I'll continue to monitor and will post my findings... |

2015 X5 M50d. Extremely pleased with the AC. Even if I don´t use the remote cooling the AC cools down the car in minutes and keeps it freezing even in outside temps of above 35C (95F).

charlietangobravo - You raise a good question...when using the Climate Control from the BMW Connected iPhone app I only get paltry airflow (no AC) from the vents...
Technically this is ventilating, but I was actually expecting so AC cooled air even it's only running from the battery. Or am I missing something? Maybe using the Climate Time feature by setting a time in the future (like 10 minutes) is what will make the AC run before I get to the car.

Can't have AC without the engine running (belt turning). The app just turns on the vents to push out the hot air (like opening windows when you first get in). Same for if you let the auto/start stop. It'll start back up while still stopped to supplement the AC if it senses it not providing sufficient temperature if you have it on.
