Thanks I was anxious as my whinters are 8J x 18 255/55 R18H and the 451 are labeled :10Jx20 275/40 R 20 at the front; 11J x 20 315/35 R 20 at the rear
Do you know what the 10J and 11J stand for ? |

Works, but you'll need spacers. Source: father had winters from his E70 and was getting them fitted on his 40e, but spacers were required. His are aftermarket reps though, so not sure if that played a role.

I am eager on keeping those winter wheels which can bare snow chains which I believe is not the case of 21" ... |

For looks more than anything, but I understand why. I even put spacers on mine when I went from 18 to 21. They are fairly inexpensive, so why not?

In addition to width, you'd also need to know offsets to be able to definitively determine how your current 18s would compare to the new 21s. |

I recently mounted 18" BMW Style 446 wheels on my '16 X5d for winter with no problems. My X5 was delivered with 20" BMW Style 451 wheels and associated fender flares so the 18s look pretty tucked in comparison to the 20s but fit just fine. Don't see why a 40e would be any different. Only reason for spacers would be to get rid of the extreme tucked in look.

I was especially curious of the swapping issue as rear tires on 451 are not idemtical to front tires. |
