Strange Brake feel

Not sure what this is but sporadically when I am driving and I push on the brake I feel like a click and the brake skips down a bit. Anyone ever have this?

Thank you!

Do you have AUTO-H turned on? This is the button behind the Parking Brake button.

I don't think so I never use it... I will watch that you think that might have something to do with it?

Well, this feature automatically holds the brake for you indefinitely when you come to a complete stop. This feature is actually dangerous in Winter weather because it will lock up the brake on its own. I had no idea this was active in my brother's X3. Thanks to some members explaining what it does, I figured it out. For you however, I'm not sure. Just make sure it isn't on (when it is lit, it is active because it is not active by default). Then we can start ruling things out from there. Keep us posted.

@CaliX5, yes I felt it quiet a lot. Especially when I am doing late braking during normal driving. My guess is the Brake Assist.
Maybe someone more familiar about the whole detail of the features and gimmicks can chime in.

If it skips down a bit meaning it pushes itself further on its own, then this is definitely the AUTO H feature because my car does not do this at all - I never have AUTO H on - completely hated it in the X3 because it felt like the car had a mind of its own rather than listening only to my foot.

Auto H only work when you on a full stop. It will hold the brake down at a full stop until you press on the gas pedal again.
I used it when I am stuck on a traffic or a drive-thru.

I'm sure you're right in dry normal weather. However, when you're on ice/hard snow, and you push the brake all the way down so that the tires completely stop moving to slow down, Auto H thinks the car is completely stopped and starts to kick in - at least this was how it worked on our 2011 X3 and made it dangerous because you're never supposed to push really hard on ice...you're supposed to pump slowly for the car to slow down. At least that's my experience for driving safely in the snow. Not sure how others drive. I've seen different opinions.

I don't have it. It seems to come with the Active Cruise Control option: http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=87867.

Sounds good. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable regarding the BMW braking systems can chime in.

Hi, it's sounds like your brake pedal gets stuck/binding on brackets pin or master cylinder faulty because piston/plunger is binding inside cylinder and you have to use more force to overcome additional resistance caused by faulty component/part. If this condition stays/repeats I would suggest to make appointment replace master cylinder or brake pedal assembly or maybe binding one of wheel cylinders. I hope this will help.
