Tires and Lease return Question

I'm at 13,xxx miles and in need of new tires already (DAMN Pirelli's ). I've started shopping tires and definitely won't go w/ the same tires this time.

I've noticed other F85 Drivers using different width tires than what came on the car and some going All Season vs. Max Summer Performance.

Question:

Does BMW NA care if the car is returned with 255 fronts and 315 rears (vs. 285 and 325)? The more narrow width tires came up on a search when I checked Discountire Direct's site which is more "liberal" than Tirerack.

Doubtful this second set will last me the end of my lease (Sept '20) but I'm curious what I may be up against with this option.

Thanks

I've run 275s on 285 wheels. The 255s on 285 wheels seem a bit of a stretch, no pun intented. Did you check availability for 275/315? Not sure on the lease return though.

Yes they do care for lease return, they will check all tires are bmw certified tires (with a start symbol on the sidewall), tread wear and size

if they replace your tires, they will charge you arms and legs. is better off purchase some used tires from ebay for return. I save all my used oem tires in the shed and mount them back for lease return

Thanks guy, 255 is definitely too narrow but just wanted to open discussion.

Shocking how expensive those Pirelli's are (considering how BAD they are).

Hopefully last question:

I've talked to a couple tire shops about going w/ 275 (front) and 315 (rear) and they seem hesitant to put those tires on and also made it sound like the car wouldn't pass inspection. Does anyone have thoughts here?

I saw cmy6go say he has gone with smaller the 275's. Any other thoughts re: state inspection?

My thought is, you leased a six figure car, just put the right tires on it.

More options w/ the alternate tire widths.

Yes it's a 6 figure car but the options w/ the OEM Wheels are significantly more expensive than my prior M5. Also hard for me to justify spending $400+ on tires if I know other options are out there.

I only did the 275/315 because I wanted run flats and they weren't available in 285/325. I returned at lease end with correct size tires. I had no problem with state inspection.

I have now seen the light, and have non run flats. I can't believe the difference in ride quality and noise level. I am a happy camper - until I get stuck....

I run 20 inch Niche wheels with 275 front and 315 rear on conti DWS 06 for winter in NY. I had about 1k miles on it, no snow yet, but so far so good.

state inspection doesn't care what tire you run, they care the tread wear only
