SSII: is that Silverstone metallic? Thats a cool color. I wanted to go with a F85 color, something like Long Beach blue metallic, but ended up steering greenish. Will see how it will look once it is all done and detailed.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did this end up costing? I really want to get my X5 wrapped but don't want to shell out 6K for a car I won't be keeping for more than 2-3 years.

Costs around ~$2k. (generally couple of hundred lesser). One thing I have learned is that not all autoflex dealers do a quality job. I remember talking to one particular dealer and he mentioned that neither plastidip nor autoflex would look as good as OEM paint, clearly I didn't go with him. As far as durability, you are good for alleast 5 years.

Just a quick silly question, the initial color of car doesn't matter at all right? I mean in terms of coat number required - it's not like it's going to be harder to convert dark car to light or vise versa?

That is correct, initial color doesn't matter at all. Infact it is easier to start from a darker color. For all light color paints (mine had Mineral White), it is usually recommended to first spray a black base and then go with the actual color.

The work should be completed this weekend, waiting to pick it up. The pics so far have mostly been taken from a smartphone, will use my SLR to capture better pics as soon as I pick it up.

I haven't picked up the car yet, will do so tomorrow afternoon. From what I have known so far, it does look and feel just like OEM paint. Will update tomorrow when I pick it up.

Finally picked up the car after two weeks and the wait was worth it. The transformation with the autoflex paint looks amazing in person and it was worth the effort atleast for now, will see how it holds up in a year or so. The finish is actually better than my previous OEM paint, check out the pics. There is a subtle color shift when the sunlight hits the paint and the micro flakes show up (tough to see that in pics)

Stunning. Although you shoulda taken the opportunity to get ind black roundels. The black contrast with that color is awesome

Perhaps, I actually thought of painting the wheels with gloss black too but then backed out. I like the look so far but never know when I will mod it again

I'm interested to see the longevity. I mean it's designed to come off right?

Yes, I'm interested in the longevity too, but not sure if I will keep it longer than my lease term (about 2.5 years left). From what I know it is supposed to last atleast for 5 years or more. And yes it is designed to come off and most importantly protecting my OEM paint too

Not sure actually, looking at few videos online I think the peel off procedure is very similar to plastidip.

Nicely done! You can see the reflections in the hood so it is indeed glossy!

ps the red pin-striping on the front lip now detracts IMO; all black to contrast with the new color is my vote

Thanks and it is glossy indeed. As far as the red pin stripe, will leave it for few days to see how it blends with the reflectors, brake lights and as well as the brake rotors that I got autoflexed red, but they didn't turn out good as it is not bright enough. But agree the black seems to pair well with this color.
