Please see pics attached below (dirty calipers and then washed by me - you can see large square pads for brembo calipers)

P.S. when i installed tech said they were like 80% left ( so I decided to keep them instead of buying new) - that's for me 1-2 years of driving lol (I don't drive much due to constant study process - I'm in med.school and have no life basically, except modding x5 and exams lol)
So , even with the pads (80 % ) came with the caliper i am not sure if its a good idea to use them with the new rotors BUT i am glad that you did save money and work well for ya .. i found on ebay set of all 4 calipers but $1500 .. and if put on top rotors, sensors , pads ... cuz dont know how good are they .... i guess shipping too..... better jump on MPBK for $2300

I think MPBK is not a bad deal currently, one forum member found a $2200 sale deal if I'm not mistaken, he posted it in this thread i think

P.S. Yeah, I went with same pads due to budget constraints, I did perform pad bedding procedure, so I did all i can do in this situation. I know it's not ideal. Sensors are just a dumb wire that triggers electric contact when pads touch wire (it's not a real high tech led sensor or something like that) - they are good unless damaged or cut (there's only 1 sensor per axle). Mine were good, so I still have 1 extra laying around the one that came with calipers. IMHO this mod makes sense if you are just doing front calipers (and only paint match rears for looks), if you go for all 4 - cost adds up and you are right it makes not much sense to not go for MPBK. If I had money I would have bought MPBK no questions asked

brake sensor is just metal little thing that once you attached to the brake pad and after wearing the pad connecting the the rotor and that metal to metal contact make the sensor on . And they are cheap ... around $30ish .I was wandering if you can just order the front MPBK caliper , but thats around 1400ish so better get the all front and rear instead .

I don't think reusing pads that have a lot of life left is a problem. Pads and rotors don't wear at the same rate and you may need to replace one ahead of the other. Why would you throw away perfectly good pads just because you need rotors?

Where have you heard that it's not a good idea?

Have you noticed any brake squeal with the drilled rotors? That is a huge complaint on the F85 forum. Not sure if it was a problem on the previous gen X5M where your parts came from.

Haha, I did get some squeal, but only after washing car. I wonder if it's going to stay like that? I've read on M4 forum that they have squeal too with bbk - could it be inherent feature with high performance brakes?

well , first because when you are buying used calipers you dont know what pads are coming with . It may be an aftermarket once or it might be a poor quality pad too. let say they are carbon dustless or race performance... The brake pads sometimes as you mention "Pads and rotors don't wear at the same rate and you may need to replace one ahead of the other " may start wearing too fast the rotor and may warped the rotor and will start having slight vibration on steering wheel when applying the brakes.Also may start squeaking... thats why the softer pads are a bit better but they wear out too fast and when they reach higher temperature they are just useless

Got it, so the guidance is based on all the "what ifs" that could possibly happen.

i will be honest with you ... i had e60 550i about 4 years ago. i went with carbotech pads and z1 motorsport rotors .. the reviews were so good ,but after i replace them and drove first 1000 miles more carefully and trying not to use the brakes much harder at the end i was not happy with them at all ... I have always says my self ... " the cheaper is always more expensive at the end " ... But that is me

I have similar belief, "cheaper costs more in time and money"

Does you know the coding specific to this upgrade?

Hey pits200, mine was done by indy shop, so I don't know it exactly, but from previous threads this is what is required if you are doing it yourself:

For those interested in coding your F15 for larger brakes...here is the instructions I followed. Huge thanks to Shawnsheridan for figuring out the code for the F15 being SBRE. For the F30 its SPBR.

This is how you code for Big brake kits for the car. This is REQUIRED or you will have mushy brakes after installing the brakes. Got this from another thread....

=> Connect
=> Expert Mode
=> Coding
=> Read FA
=> Save FA
=> Editors and viewers
=> FA-editor
=> Go to HO-Wort and right click on "Edit," then type SBRE under the HO-Wort file
=> Select the FA, "Calculate FA" to verify that no errors are found after adding the SBRE.
=> Write (write) FA to your car. No confirmation window will appear after saving the FA to the car
=> Expert Mode
=> Coding
=> Read (read) the FA. You are able to see SBRE be added to the HO-Wort folder on your car.
=> Read SVT, and locate the "DSC" (File Folder SVT / ECU / DSC), then right-click the "DSC" folder and select "Code". Consolidation should start immediately.
=> Allow the coding is over, and repeat step 1 to save a copy of the new FA.
=> Disconnect the car's computer.
The M-Performance brake is now activated and enjoy the authentic experience of M Performance brake.

Hmmm...I wonder if this can be coded for us without BBK for a firmer pedal feel...

People have done it on the F3X platform without installing MPBK. Tighter pedal feel is the common review.

In sum, it looks great - I often look at it and think wow - they look good that's biggest success! Had couple guys secretly walk up to my x5 from other side - when they thought I can't see them and they were looking at them lol

Performance wise in normal driving it feels a bit easier to stop now then with 50i stock brakes - but keep in mind 50i brakes are very good to begin with (they are 2 piston design in the front), so any improvement on top of them is an accomplishment imho. Also, in several instances when I pushed the car hard - difference was more obvious. I might try different pads - for now I have used stock oem ones that came with calipers.

Only one negative - now my brakes squeal at low speeds - like when in stop n go traffic going very slow and stopping. Haven't looked into solution yet, but F85 folks complain of that too, as well as Porsche Cayenne folks lol - so I think that is something to do with bbk - either drilled rotors or pad material, not sure yet, but that squeal comes with the package - authentic experience

If anyone knows if Bimmercode has advanced options for coding larger brakes...it would be good to know for some.
