2018 x6m issues / help

So let me start off that I LOVE this car. I just got a 2018 x6m "black fire" and it's amazing. I got it around Thanksgiving 2017. I have 2k miles on it. I did my break in service.

I do a lot of city driving. This week I noticed that the engine didn't feel right. I say this because I had a x6m for 3 years, and most recently a m6 grand coupe for 3 years. So I KNOW how this car should drive/sound/feel. Then yesterday the "engine is too hot" warning came up and I took to dealer. The temp gauge however was normal.

I noticed a humming when inside the car, seems to be coming from the engine. Sounds like a ground is off...no other way to describe the sound. It's not too loud, but it's noticable.

I also feel a sort of very slight clicking from the engine, like a old car when the belt was loose. I know thats not what it is, but thats what it sounds like. Very slight. Not always, but sometimes I hear/feel it. I wasn't sure if it was tires or the road. But again, I know this car...

Also, not sure it's related but sometimes I drive and my idrive just reboots while I'm driving.

Like I said, I took it to the dealer an they are looking into it as we speak. My gut says it's a computer problem. Probably needs to be "rebooted". Maybe when they did my break in service they didn't do it correctly.

I'm HOPING it's not anything with the engine or transmission

As long as it's under warranty, all good.

I'm also experiencing some sort of humming noise at idle. As soon as I begin driving, it goes away. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't pinpoint it..

Update: 2 warnings came up when they hooked up the car to "the computer". iDrive was faulty (replaced head unit) and the engine had a connection issue with the idrive. They re programmed the car and now is good to go. Thanks guys!

Congratulations I am happy for you and thank you for sharing. Hopefully no one will have any of the issues you listed but if they did, your response will make their life easier.

Any insights why the engine noise was traced to a faulty head unit? Was the noise emanating from the speakers?

They ended up replacing the whole idrive. Honestly the noise went away and I have no clue why.

The "rattling" I had was from a broken light (rear brake light thats above the back window). Had that replaced too.

So my cabin is now perfectly quiet. The ONLY noise I get is from the brakes.

You mentioned that they replaced your whole iDrive.

I just got my F16 a few weeks ago and the HUD is glitchy. It doesn't reset, cut off or anything like that but does glitch. Was your HUD glitchy as well?

No, it would just shut down and reset in the middle of driving.

If you take it in to them they plug it in and run a diagnostic. Usually a "reboot" will fix all issues with these cars.

Just posted this in another HUD thread:

I've been having glitches and finally took it in after having it 3 1/2 months.

They ran 3 tests: first one came back as no fault on the machine. The service mgr asked the tech to check again as the customer can't be going crazy over what he saw.

Tech checked again, it came back with a full readout of everything checking okay except that time, some temperature issue but not pin-pointed; gave instruction to reset.

Final time: Tech checked again, came back as faulty, temperature issue- system-directed to replace the unit.. phew, thank goodness for rechecking.. goes in, in two days for a new replaced unit.
