I don't know about any other cars. But I used to have a 2015 m6 gran couple before I got my current car. I am very familiar with the M brake issues. I had it all throughout my m6 and since Nov. 2017 when I got my current x6m (from day one). I'm not saying this is THE FIX. I'm just saying that SO FAR SO GOOD. I've NEVER had my brakes not make a noise for THIS LONG...EVER. And like I have stated in previous posts that I have tried everything.

So I will keep you guys posted with progress. I took my car in and got it a day later. Was under warranty so I didn't pay anything (I lease)...nothing to lose.
I hear ya and hope for you.

My 2010 X6M had zero noise, but far different brakes IIRC.

The work they did 3 months back on my front pads helped right away, but in dry warmer weather the squeal works back in. Any moist weather and no squeal...which I fear means no noise until summer and having to go after BMW again.

Great so a two year old thread about the same issue and still no fix today. Interesting that the sib has existed for so long. Just a shame cuz I never had a squeak from my AMG 6/4pot brembos with racing brake rotors and pads.

I've done the following...

1. Drive fast and slam brakes (only lasts a day)
2. "clean" or wash the brake bads (day)
3. gotten new brake pads after complaining about the squeel (a day as well).

So I've actually driven a lot on the highway and city the last two days. Driven dry and driven in a monsoon (I live in DC) and still happy to say NO noise!
What dealership did you take it to? I live in DC area and having the same issue. PM me or tell your service rep name so I can contact him or her? Thanks.

Disc Brakes Italia makes a set. I ordered them and had them installed. Lasted about a month with them. The noise didn't go away it just changed frequencies. Also even after bedding them in the pads had much less bite and felt really soft compared to OEM. Dust was about the same just a different color. Still have them in my garage maybe will put them up for sale at some point.

Thank you all, for sharing your experiences and advice while dealing with this issue.

I'm scheduled to pick up my 2019 X6M next Tuesday and although I've been excited to take ownership of my very first M car, I have been watching these brake squeal threads and dread enduring this situation for any amount of time.

It's been said before, but I'm sure we all agree that a car that costs well over 100K shouldn't have embarrassing issues like this.

Do any of you recommend any specific procedures to break in (pun intended) the brakes on an X6M that may potentially help avoid developing this problem?

Any advice you you guys can provide will be highly appreciated.

You can google brake bedding procedures. It's pretty standard. Bunch of 60-10mph stops with hard breaking. You should do this till you feel them fade a bit. Then park and let cool. DO NOT APPLY PARKING BREAK and don't come to a compete stop using the brakes.

^^ Rebedding your brakes periodically is a great idea, especially if you have been driving with only light braking / on stop and go streets for an extended period. It helps re-establish an even transfer layer. My only addition to the above would be to cool your brakes while driving if at all possible, as opposed to parking when hot.

Don't count on this getting rid of squeal entirely, though...

I brought in my 2018 X5 M last week for a few items and complained about the brake squeal, not expecting much in return. To my surprise, I was told that BMW issued a bulletin regarding new pads being made available, but they won't be in stock for another 3-4 weeks. My SA told me a set was ordered for me and I will receive a call when I can bring the truck back in to have them installed. I don't have part numbers or anything, but if they actually call me back and perform the swap, I'll share everything I can.

I must be missing something because I did read the entire thread and what bmw is currently telling me is not referenced anywhere in this thread. I was told that new BMW sourced pads made of a new compound will be available soon. Not backing plates. Not aftermarket. Not ceramic. Not a bedding procedure. New BMW oem parts that have yet to even make it to the US. I'll remain skeptical until they arrive, are installed, and solve the problem, but I still don't see this mentioned here.

It's not a new compound. They simply are chamfering the pads. There is a puma covering this. There is a new part number and everything. But hey if your SA specifically told you it's a "new compound" which I doubt cuz SAs usually know less than my garage door when it comes to my BMW then that is good news. But this would be a first then if this is the case. Just weir considering how active this topic has been over the last couple months and how many people have been getting the new pads and rotors via the puma not one has mentioned a new compound. Which is why I'm skeptical that now all the sudden YOU are getting a new compound.

But again fingers crossed for sure.

Oh that sucks, sorry, I follow you now. It's probably the same BS then. Interesting that these 'new' pads would be delayed 3-4 weeks if they are the same 'new' pads, but maybe the delay is just coincidental and due to other manufacturing or logistical issues. I'll definitely share part numbers and experience to see if there are any differences.

Ya I'm assuming it's more like everyone's scooping them up and there isn't a plethora developed yet. But ya idk.
