MY17 DG X6M New Owner And Prolly Build Thread
Hi there,
So the title is a lie as I am not an owner yet, but it's 99.99% that I will be by this time tomorrow. Looking at two cars, both with the same deal from the dealers, and both Donington Grey, the only difference is that one has the Aragon interior with CF inlays and the other black interior with aluminum inlays. I'll probably go with the black cause brown, black, aluminum, cf, are just too many finishes in the interior of a car for me. I've been doing some lookingthingsupiness in the forum but perhaps you could indulge me with a few quick answers before I pull the trigger, especially since I haven't owned a BMW since the mid 90s. First, I went to test drive it the other day and it struck me as odd that there isn't a P mode that one could go to from Drive without engaging the parking brake. Is this correct or is there some wizardry to make that happen that the salesman didn't know of? Mod wise ... I wanted to de-chrome all the outside trim and emblems and make all of them gloss black. I gather that IND is a good lace for that and that they are on this forum. Any other high end vendors that you guys can refer me to? Also, is it possible to achieve this look: It looks like the kidney grilles don't even have a surround and that the crossmember piece dividing the from grille is painted black. I'll probably have some more questions as things evolve, especially in regards to exhaust and other stuff, but that's it for now and I really mostly just wanted to introduce myself. This is what I'm coming out of: These are the other girls (although the TTS will be gone soon too): Cheers! |

Yes, no "real" park button. You can just pull in and shut the vehicle off in drive or pull in and engage the parking brake then shut the vehicle off. If you watch the gear indicator you will see it flashes to "P" once you press the on/off ignition button twice.
Kidney grills just pop out. IND has a pretty decent DIY on the product page. Prepare to really enjoy it. There is nothing like this vehicle out there. |

Congrats! Definitely go with the Aragon Brown though. It is so rich-looking in person. Also the carbon fiber trim is probably the best I've seen (in comparison to Audi, and Porsche). Just my humble opinion though!

The proverbial trigger has been pulled. I went with the black interior one. Just too many different textures and colors for my eye with Aragon ... black and aluminum are more to my taste.
Anyhoot, she should be here late this week early next week just in time for xmas. And I'll be loitering around the forum asking stupid questions ... Speaking of which, does anyone sell painted or tinted front side markers for the X6? ----------------------- ETA: I found these: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...85-x5m/?pdk=Ag , they say they also fir the F86 bit I want to double check with you guys that that's really the case. Saw your TTS and RR on the Rennlist vehicle marketplace. Beautiful collection you have. You should definitely think about the Aragon brown. It is a beautiful color and hides the dirt well. My wife and I love our X6M with Aragon interior. The X6M performance is not the level of your GT3 , but it's pretty awesome. I may be bias but 911 and X6M is a perfect combination to have in anyone's garage. And the P mode on the shifter, you will get use to it. |

@soulsea , congrats on the X6M.
The painted reflector do fit between X5M and X6M. Feel free to visit my site for some mods. I wish BMW always release the M car first before the regulars. I tried to convince myself for X5M or X6M, but I can't justify seeing the same interior everyday for another 3 years.

Has anyone bought the black chrome trunk nameplate and hood/trunk emblems from IND?
Trying to figure out how different they are compared to the gloss black. Thanks

I'd really like to see black chrome grils/side grills. I had black chrome on my E92 M3 (was a factory accessory) and think it looks so much better than the gloss black and faux chrome.

She'll be here Monday, so in anticipation I ordered:
- 5mm/15mm spacers/lugs - M Performance gloss black side vents - M Performance gloss black kidney grilles - DG Painted side markers - DG Painted rear reflectors - Black chrome front/rear roundels - Black chrome rear nameplate I was afraid that the gloss black roundels and nameplate might give too much contrast so I'm going to mock up the black chrome ones to see how they look ... if they work I'll keep them otherwise I'll exchange them for the gloss black ones. I just wish there were a black exhaust tip solution without having to change the whole system, but apparently that's not the case. It's just going to bother me to have the whole car de-chromed and to have those ss tips stand out. So I think I'm going to be looking at an aftermarket exhaust system. Looks like Dinan, Eisenmann, and Akra are the ones people use most. Love you's guys input on them.

@soulsea , go all out with Eisenmann Race.
It seems the most popular setup other than Dinan.

I looked at all and bought the Akra. Full system is the way to go and the sounds is absolutely perfect. There is one in the classifieds right now for a great deal as well.

From what I can tell from the yt clips all these aftermarket exhaust 'burp' on the upshifts. What would be the main differences tween the Dinan, Eisenmann, and Akra? Also from what I can tell the Dinan requires cutting to attach, is that the case with all of them, and if so is there another option that doesn't?

Yes, it has a noticeable pressure burp when shifting. It's the most pronounced in Setting 3 where the transmission is slamming gear shifts as fast as it can. Yes, the stock exhaust is literally one piece from the tips all of the way to the downpipes. It's extremely long and heavy. So long I had to cut mine in half just to load it in a truck and get it home to store away. Every exhaust requires cutting with the exception of a full system (Akra). The factory exhaust is already 3" so it's not slouch by any means. The Akra has cleaner lines, better sound throughout rpm range, absolutely zero drone, and provides a substantial amount of weight savings. |

So the H&R 5/15mm spacers got delivered today.
They come with extended lug bolts. I wasn't paying attention and thought that they came with extended lug nuts. That's how my spacers came for my C7 Z06. Anyway no big deal, but I've never had to swap lug bolts before. Is this a pita that I'm better off handing off to someone who knows what they're doing or can a casual like myself tackle the job?
