Finally In Production

I ordered a 2017 x5m just before Thanksgiving, and it's finally in production with a finish date of January 11th. Waiting is killing me.

This is my first BMW, and I'm stoked to get it!

Anything I should know about ownership? Words of wisdom?

That's one heck of a wait!

The best part is, i've never seen an x5m in person. Ordered on a whim, and the more I research, the more impatient I get.

Congratulations, make sure you adhere to the 1200 mile break in period. Also, I would suggest not letting the gas tank go down beyond half way before break in. Remember there is no P for Parking. No matter what gear you are in when you press the off button to turn off the ///M the selector will go into Park, then hit the button again to completely shut the ///M down. I would also make sure the tires are set to proper PSI. Good luck.

This....

You can also put the car into neutral and set the parking brake as well.

This always confuses anyone new to BMW M cars. Seems unnecessary at first but you will get use to it. Took me a few weeks and now its second nature.

Thanks for the heads up. That could've made for an awkward, "well now what?!" situation in my garage on delivery day. The last M I drove was a standard stick without the fancy selector.

I applaud you. Buying a car, sight unseen, takes guts. That said, you made a good choice. A really good one. I think you are going to be very pleased.

What color, options did you select?

It took a few weeks of deliberation. I wanted to minimize garage space and insurance costs so i'm consolidating two cars to the X5M. This was the only vehicle I could find that was a fair cross between my winter SUV and the summer fun car. It was this or the Model X, but I'm not ready to make the switch to electric yet.

Black Sapphire
21" Wheels
Silverstone Full Interior w/ Carbon Fiber Trim
Driver Assistance
Executive Package
Park Assist
CarPlay Upgrade
B&O Sound

Originally wanted the Smoke White Individual interior, but I didn't want to wait the extra weeks. Bummed about that, but all's good!

Funny test, try it is fun, M gearboxes disengage from engine 100% when stop, it is not behave as a normal automatic gearbox, so when you released your brake pedal it wont advance.

Perfect! Coming from a manual, I like rolling backwards to scare folks who don't understand vehicles.

Congrats! Nice to see another midwesterner. If you enjoy it now, you'll really enjoy it when you get those winter wheels off!
