Navigation Map Update

For those of you, that haven't update your Map Data since you purchased your X5M. I just purchased mine from https://bimmernavupdates.com/shop/bmw-x5-series/ I paid $75.00 for the data and LifeTime Code, meaning the code they provided me is for lifetime updates.
I only need to update the maps every few years to keep it current. Since, my vehicle is a 2015, my maps were updated to say the least. So I thought it was about time to do something about it, so I reached out to my local BMW Dealership, and was surprised that they didn't have the latest updates.
But they wanted $150.00 for last years maps. So, I searched the web, and came across the website above. They sent me the thumb drive and the 20 digit code, inserted it into the USB slot in the center console, entered the code and it updated itself.
It took about 30 minutes, now my vehicle has the latest 2021 version. No issues whatsoever.

Is a CPO typically updated? I have yet to check with my SA about this. Anyone know if CPO includes all software updates etc?

eBay offers this service for less than $15 as well, I just did it to my wife's 2015. They send you a link to the maps which are over 29GB and the code and same end result!

Understood, but I prefer to have a website and technical support that I can trust, and not eBay. You can specify whether you want to download the large zip file, unzip it and load it to your thumb drive, or have them send you a 32GB Thumb Drive preloaded with the software, for no hassle plug & play option.
But, if you choose the cheapest route, it will set you back $40.00

Outstanding Did they provide the code to you yet? Just follow the update instructions from their website and your all set.

Thanks for posting this. With respect to the lifetime FSC code, it still looks like you have to pay for the updated maps. $20 for download, $35 for shipped USB.

https://bimmernavupdates.com/shop/lifetime-fsc-update/

Is this correct? If so, what's the purpose of the lifetime code? I can't imagine keeping the car past 1 or maybe 2 updates. And yes, I did read the difference on the site, but it doesn't seem to justify the cost, at least in my mind, if you still have to pay for the update. The only time it appears beneficial is if there's multiple updates within a year.

If you already have the lifetime FSC code. Search for 2021-1 map update on 6post. There's a google folder to get the 2021-1 map at no cost. I did the update last week this way. Saves you $20-35.

Gotcha - thanks for that. I'm glad I was missing something or reading their site too literally.

Literally, you only need to purchase updates every two to three years. My previous map data was 6 yrs old

It's funny that my previous map was 2019-1 and already felt outdated in Reston/Chantilly area....

My wife's car has 2011 map and our community doesn't even exist on the Navi

Well, maybe it's just because there's no more room to build anything in the Metro Boston area that makes things so static!

Oh well - I wouldn't mind an update for NH, VT, and ME though. I rarely use the BMW map though because I just use Waze or Google Maps. I prefer the look of the BMW navigation though.

I felt the same way for the Fairfax area. New roads and sub-divisions being built, and they didn't exist on my 2015 map. Now, I need to find out if they even make an update for my 2007 E63 As the latest update, I have for it was 2014. I called Mercedes, and they said that my 2014 update was the latest one So now, I'm searching online for update CD

And as I understand it - a "Lifetime" code - does not come with free maps for life - you just don't have to buy the unlock code anymore. You'd still need to buy the maps I believe.

But once you have the lifetime code - you can easily find the new map updates on here for free. I bought a "legit" one with a Lifetime code when I bought mine, but since then have used the free map updates on here with zero issues.

Are you the original owner? If not, when you scroll to the VERSION screen in iDrive…are you on the original Nav map version? If not, and you or a previous owner updated the maps since it rolled off the assembly line…if the PO updated the maps at some point…they may have purchased a lifetime FSC. If that’s the case, you can insert your thumb drive with the 2021 maps and it will accept it without the FSC code.

If you need the FSC code…you’ll be asked to enter it right away. Just sayin.

I'll back up the guy that mentioned the Ebay buy, while I didn't do it with my X5M as I got the dealer to update in the purchase I did it with my M4. I got the code then downloaded the map update from the BMW site, as with any further updates. No further costs... but that was a couple of years ago and in Aust. so maybe a different setup form BMW Au.
