BMW Tire & Wheel Insurance

Getting ready for my F85 to come in a few months and wondering what others have paid for the BMW Tire & Wheel policy? I have it on my F10 550 and it has paid off exponentially (5 rims & 10 tires in 2.5 years).

I plan on getting the X5M with the 21s so I would expect the same type of tire issues being low-profile any with horrible NYC Area roads.

Dealer screwed up my F10 order, so the tire and rim was to compensate me for their error on my build, so I have no idea what the policy runs in terms of cost for 3 years. I also understand that there is one policy with and one without cosmetic damage. I do not currently have the cosmetic damage rider, but would be interested in the premium to add that coverage.

Please post your policy type & amount paid if you would be so kind

yes, bent 5 19" OEM (BMW style 351M) rims over the course of 2.5 years on my F10 550 (alloy ... not forged)

not very difficult to do on these wonderfully pothole ridden NJ roads.

I'm sure speed has something to do with it, and I don't expect to drive my F85 slower than my F10

It is definitely worth it. I curbed one of my rims and got it repaired for the $50.00 deductible.

Definitely worth the insurance! Just turn in my BMW X5M for service for 1- flat tire, 1-nail tire and slightly scratches on the wheels and insurance approved the repairs. They will replace 2 tires and a repair the rims scratches.

I went ahead and took everyone advice from the forum about getting the insurance. Will be picking up the vehicle sometime this week. So fingers cross i don't have to pay anything out of pocket.

The cost various by state and by dealer. I paid close to $40 / month on a 3 year lease in NY and then for my next car paid $1,200 upfront for 3 years in CA. For my second car, I was being quoted $2,500 for the same BMW insurance I got for half the price in CA. It obviously helps if you are doing the PCD as you have a wider choice of dealers to pick from.

For those that have made claims, how receptive are they to full replacements? I've seen some that repair wheels and will only replace under certain circumstances. I for one would not want a cracked rim repaired.

And are there deductibles also?

I'm not sure about the replace vs. repair but the deductible is $50.

My understanding is if it's a scuff or scratch they repair, crack or dent, they replace. There is a $50 deductible per visit. In February I had two tires replaced at the same time under the plan, and paid only one $50 fee.

I was always under the impression these were third party insurers, however it seems like you all have the same type of plan. Is this in fact a BMW plan? And how long do they cover tires for? Is it based on tread/mileage?

It is a third party insurer, I forget the name of the one I'm on. My understanding is BMW sets the terms though, that's why they are all pretty much the same, but prices seem to vary for the policies. I could be wrong, as I'm coming to this conclusion based on what I've read, and heard in different interactions. In February the dealership told me the name of the insurer, and said that a rep was local. I brought my car in to be checked before a long trip three days later, when they found the two damaged tires. They were friendly with the rep, had him come the next day, and tires were installed the following day.

Thanks Urban Extant and everyone here, ended up getting it for $1500, it includes key replacement and paintless dent removal as well. Hopefully I never need it, but the security blanket is nice.

Interesting. I was under the impression that it does not include cosmetic damage. I read my agreement last night and it's very vague in that it explicitly says it covers structural damage but does not make mention of cosmetic. However, it excludes any statements that says it does not cover cosmetic.

I'm actually very surprised it covers cosmetic damage.

I paid for the policy that includes cosmetic damage. There is available a cheaper policy that does not cover cosmetic damage.
