You will not get the calls outside of CarPlay with this config. Not even a ringer.

That's true if you were to be listening to the radio I guess. The only thing I go out of CarPlay for is to adjust ambient lights or something.

This is all confusing like hell.

Does it mean that if I stay in CarPlay at all times, all features eg calls, cameras etc etc work with expected quality? Straight from the box or do I need to perform any voodoo with certain firmware flash files? If so - which one for which box, how to navigate that without doing a PhD on this subject and/or reading hundreds of pages of few separate threads?

No PhD required, It's all out of the box.

I have Andream as well, the instructional video was not clear they sent me but responded through messenger with some help. But, the BimmerTech installation video was right on point because I do believe its basically the same just a different name on it and Andream is way cheaper as many have already said.

Like you, I have no problems with my Andream Unit. It is wireless, or I can use the wired connection. Everything works, phone calls, music, navigation, and other CarPlay apps. All my car functions still work. Even tried the screen mirroring feature and I played a video from the phone all wirelessly. Actually think the sound is a little better because of the built in EQ in the module

I am seriously considering ripping out my Android screen and going w the Andream unit. The screen goes black from time to time. Additionally, every time I get in the car I have to manually connect to the screens Bluetooth. Resolution is the main reason I am holding out.

I bought my Andream unit a few weeks or months back. Any firmware updates I should know about?

I'm running the custom firmware on my Road top version (same as Andream) and it fixes the Android Auto widescreen issue. I believe there looking at using the OEM controls for phone calls (likes the bimmertech version) instead of having Android Auto control it.

Just double check which Andream you have, people who ordered recently are receiving a slightly updated version (only difference is that it can use Huawei's AA alternative) that might use a non-compatible firmware.

I have not issues with my recently installed Andream unit but did ask if I had the latest software. This morning, I got an software update from Andream Tech. I will be installing today. I'll let you know how it goes.

I ordered and installed the Bimmertech unit. It shipped from Dubai so I would assume they can get one to you in SA. Granted the Bimmertech unit is more expensive but I have a number to call if I have issues.
