Question Is MY2019 safer than MY2018 ?

New member here. I am actively searching for pre-owned X5 as my next ride. I am most interested in the safety features as recently my driving ability had been impaired by a medical condition (can still drive, but can't see as well as before).

My budget is $50,000 and I can get a loaded MY2018 or a high milage MY2019. My must have options are:
1. driving assistance plus (2018) or professional package (2019)
2. parking assistance plus with 360 degree camera
3. any other helpful safety features

My big questions are:

A. What is the difference between 2018's driving assistance plus and 2019's driving assistance professional?

B. Are there safety options available only in 2019 so it's worth it for me to max my budget to get 2019? Or 2018 has all the safety features of 2019?

I tend to think newer models will have newer "tech". But I could be wrong so want to consult with those who know more about BMW here. I did some searches myself but was not able to get my answers.

Thank you

Do a google search for the two things listed below…then scroll through the PDF (of each) to see what option codes are included in the option pkgs you are inquiring about. This should answer the question as to what(if any) differences between the two pkgs:
  • BMW 2018 X5 ordering pricing guide PDF
  • BMW 2019 X5 ordering pricing guide PDF

EDIT: here’s a page from each ORDERING GUIDE PDF that lists the option codes that are in each package you asked about.

I looked at the IIHS site, seems like they prefer 2019

You are looking at 2 different bodies and generations.

2018 is F15 X5 (previous generation)
2019 is G05 X5 (current generation)

Keep in mind that F15 production started in 2013, so obviously 6 years things got updated. But F15 is still very safe and pretty reliable car.

Yeah… My only excuse is a 12 weeks border collie puppy at home, so my sleep pattern got a little spotty at best. Apologies
