Why auto insurance do you have in New York?

Liberty Mutual increased my rate by $1700 for this coming year so I am shopping around. One agent got me a good deal for $4k for Progressive while another agent told me progressive doesnt insure BMW in New York

Seems odd. Are you in NYC?

I have Progressive, but I am in VA. Call around. There are usually better deals out there, but it definitely pays to shop and to play around with your extras and deductibles.

Im in NY near the city and have geico. Theyre ok but they did raise my rates by quite a bit this year for literally no reason. Still cheaper than progress and state farm for me, I havent tried liberty mutual though.

I’m in Upstate NY on USAA.

My advice is shop around with all of the insurance companies you’re comfortable doing business with. Even if you really prefer Liberty Mutual for one reason or another. I would swap to your #2 or #3 pick if they are cheaper then come back to Liberty Mutual if their rates improve at renewal time.

Insurance is going up all over the place for a lot of reasons, but each company has different formulas and etc they use to keep their risk pool in line. So you can get very different results shopping around. Even in a market as painful as this one.

Also, make sure your “estimated mileage” is realistic too. Look at your last year of driving and make sure that number is as low as it should be. That can cause wild swings in your rates and you may open yourself up to a low mileage discount.

Shop Shop Shop. Go with a preferred risk insurance provider if applicable. Many companies will offer around a 10% discount if you pay your policy in full. Consider increasing your deductible.

State Farm offered me a 35% increase for my renewal. I laughed. Told him he'd never see a penny of that money and reminded him that I don't need to wait until my policy expires to switch over to another provider and get the remaining balance of my money back. He offered to do a "re-rate" (using my credit score). I signed the form then he sat on it for the next 4 weeks while he tried to run out the clock on my current policy. I ended up switching and had to call corporate to get the cancellation done when he refused to do it on the day I instructed him to. What a headache. Most insurance companies really just don't care.

FWIW, Progressive refused to offer me a quote (about 8 months ago) whereas 20 months ago they were happy to provide me with one. So there may be some truth to the BMW+Progressive theory. I live out in the PNW.

Good Luck!!!

I lowered my insurance by a third when I inquired about low mileage use. Turns out less than 7k per year driving costs a lot less to insure. Just a heads up, and yes, this was in NY.

I've had Progressive for 20 years, all BMWs. Every few years they would hit me with stupid increases. I'd call and ask why my rates were going up and they would say they couldn't do anything. I would then get a quote from another company and call back a few days later to say I got a better rate and wanted to cancel. All of a sudden they would be able to reduce my rate/increase by writing my policy with a different Progressive company or by changing my "tier". It's all a game.

Fast forward to this year. My previous relationship was with Progressive directly, no broker. I was renewing my homeowners and excess liability insurance with my broker. I had to give her my auto policy info for the excess liability coverage. She offered me an auto policy for much less than Progressive. I thanked her for quoting but said I was sitting on the fence about changing companies because I have been with Progressive for so long. She took it upon herself and went to Progressive and came back with a quote from Progressive for hundreds less than their renewal to me for the same coverages.

As far as Progressive not insuring BMWs, it could be no new policies. Mine is technically a new policy though. The old one was canceled. Unless they took into consideration that even though it is a BMW and a new policy, they've covered me for so many years.

I would see if any agents in your area can insure you with Erie Insurance. I have 8 vehicles (cars in my sig and a 2019 Lexus es300 in storage)on my policy with 500k/500k coverage and my payment is around 670-680/month.

Im also in upstate NY so rates are definitely cheaper compared to NYC. There are alot of factors to consider. Age, History insole carnies even do a soft pull on your credit for risk factor score

Reach out to my agent she's helped a few members on here...Gem Agency and ask for Megan 315-735-1771

Yes. That is the company my broker got the first quote from before she contacted Progressive.
