No light on A/C button when it's pressed!

What does it mean for the light on A/C button to stay off when it's pressed? It's not turning green!. It definitely used to work in the past.

Could be a blown AC switch. Have you checked for codes through ISTA? If you don’t have ISTA, lmk, I’ll be happy to run it for you.

I used bimmerlink and no A/C codes. The A/C does work and the button too - toggling it I can feel the A/C on or off, and also when the fan is off hitting the A/C button turns the fan on. I have the first generation V8 2005 X5 and that old grandapa beast has everything working including the A/C light. Hard to believe my F86 has issues with the A/C button light!.

You could just replace the entire control module, have you contacted BMW to get their take on it?

I've had this same issue for a long time now. Haven't bothered looking into it. haha

Since the button works, it could just be the illuminator light behind it. I would contact BMW to get the part number, then search for it online for a cheaper price.

Was thinking of finding a whole new panel with ceramic controls since I have the ceramic iDrive knob.

For me it was the whole control panel. Bought a used one off eBay for an X6 and all is well now. ISTA will complain it’s not registered to the car but functionality is not affected.

Yup, found one on eBay for about $350 in good condition. I would never pay the $1000+ BMW is asking for. My AC still worked but not having the light didn’t vibe with my OCD.

My dear wife asked me a basic question and I dropped to the floor - is the system telling you there's not enough freon? Got to check with the dealer tomorrow because she is always embarrassingly right.

My A/C button light just stopped working too! And we aren't the only ones to have this issue:

It seems odd to me that this is the only light failing on the panel? Or are other people having trouble with other LEDs too?

Wonder if it fails when others don't because it's a light that is turned off and on frequently or is on all the time. Still shouldn't fail, but just theorizing.

Send your ac panel to me! Easy fix! I just did mine. My AC panel decided to mess up as well and my AC recirculating button went dead....
I ended up fixing it and swapping for a red LED instead of green one and I have to say I really like the red better! I was contemplating a blue one- that would probably look good too! here is how it went!

Where did you buy the bulbs? Many LED bulbs out there are low quality and dont last.

LEDs have great reviews but to be honest the swap is really easy so if it fails I will swap it out again. I'm not too worried about it. It was $5 and 20min of my time....

On a side note, I found a full panel with ceramic control knobs but it has the FM/AM button and mine has the "BAND" button to switch from FM to AM to Satellite. Would it work or does that mean I won't be able to switch to Satellite and can only use FM/AM?

Would like to know for sure. Going to post a separate thread. If it does work then I'll probably replace mine and send my unit to you to fix the LED and resell it.
