Car is not even 5 days old, already have rock chip on hood!

What should I do? Touch up paint from BMW? How does everyone else here take care of theirs?

Have a professional paint that area (I know it's a little costly)

Then have the entire hood wrapped in a clear bra

If you touch it up yourself it will not match - but the best way to repair (yourself) would be to clean the area with alcohol or naphtha, then place a small drop of paint on a toothpick and gently apply to the scratch. The idea is to use as little paint as possible to fill the scratch. This will prevent rust from forming.

Damn Quattro! What happened? Did you follow too close to someone?

Check these out.. The last video DIY seems like the best one.

Dude, three letters... LIE, Long Island Expressway, you don't even need to be close to anyone to get a rock chip. Oh well, I'll chalk it up to battle wounds...

I did some research, wound up going with Dr. ColorChip
They sold me on their technology & methodology.

quattrospeed I feel for you. I know this won't make you feel ANY better but I kerb'd my 469's within 3 days of taking delivery and this was just a day before I had booked the car into having the AlloyGators fitted.

WRT chips, I've got a couple on the passenger side rear where some idiots knick the side when they get of their cars, so have used the BMW touch-up pencils as an interim before booking the car into a local friendly paint-shop to get 'my man' to fix 'em.

I don't know if it's BMW's crappy paint quality or if we are just out of luck but that rock chip looks like it went right deep into bare metal.

Ouch!! But at least alloy wheels can be easily repaired without being able to notice a thing.

That matches the rock chip in my windshield right in the middle of the HUD reflection.

Less than a week... way too soon for a character mark. If you can live with it do a touch up... hopefully not to metal... if it bubbles then pay professionally. .. keep it simple go professional if needed. .. I got scars on both x3 X5.. kinda of a collector of one of a kind remembrance marks.

Garage List

Had the same heartbreak driving my Volvo V60 Polestar back from Chicago yesterday...the day I bought it! Worst yet, I had paint protection film put on before my journey, but I took the shot far up the hood close to the windshield (hood only has 18" of coverage). Gonna have it professionally touched up, and then have the entire hood and fenders wrapped.
