Based on my own personal experience, I would not recommend wrapping the roof.

The first time it was done improperly around the base of the shark fin antenna and they broke the seal. In turn, water got in and screwed up the module which had to be replaced.

Second go around with a different shop, the wrap on the shark fin would not hold. They also screwed up the seal and I had the same issue with water getting under the shark fin cover and fried the module.

Third go around with a different shop, some air creeped in and caused a large bubble that couldn't be repaired.

At this point I said screw it and had it painted. Should have done it from the beginning....Lesson Learned.

Love the end product though.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Is it possible that the shop you use is not qualified to do the job? I have seen very mediocre wrap jobs and very good ones.

I have had my roof wrapped for over a year now and it is in perfect condition, no fading, no bubble, no issues. I believe the installer needs to be the best possible and also the quality of the material use is as important. There are tons of cars with full wraps and no issues...I think this was just bad luck!!

I think the black roof makes an incredible difference specially on the X6. But i feel your pain!

I would not get discouraged. Please read my post above. I have had my roof wrapped for over a year with no issues of bubbles, fading or water intrusion. As stated above, I believe you need to make sure you get the job done with the best material possible (3M or alike) and qualified skills. Of course it is possible that things can go wrong but it is not common. There are thousands and thousands of cars with wraps on with no issues.

No worries. If you do go the wrapping route, make sure they handle the area around the Shark Fin very carefully.

If they try to remove the shark fin cover make sure they follow BMW's sealing procedure perfectly to include the exact type of sealant they use. They will need to drop the headliner to do remove it.

If they don't remove the shark fin make sure they are gentle at the base and not push in or break the moisture seal.

Looking back, I regret not getting it painted off the bat. The cost was just a little more than a high quality wrap job and I personally think it looks better.

For your tail lights, did you cut around the silver trim? I have mine tinted but a little worried letting the guys cut around the silver because might cut the tailight itself if not careful?

Mine are tinted as well. They did cut around the silver trim with a blade. This was all done by hand. The guy that tinted them was very precise and careful while doing it. There isn't any damage done to the light. Makes a huge difference in my opinion.

Man that white and black looks awesome! How did you make the wheel reflectors black?
Thank you. I plasti dipped them with a coat or two of glossifier on top. Vinyl wrapping would look great as well and most likely last a while. I wanted a quick fix and really hated the orange so I did it myself. The job has held up great ever since.

Your X6M would look good with a blacked out roof. We had our X5M roof painted recently.
I'm strongly considering blacking out the roof. It will finish the whole look of the car. Everything else is done besides the wheels. I might keep them as is for now. Your car looks great with the roof painted black.

Snow in North Carolina!

Only two inches at my place near Fort Bragg in the central Sandhills. Sure it will pale in comparison to all those north of me.
