Using 18" stock wheels/tires for Winter?

How are the oem 18" wheels/tires in light snow/icy conditions? I'm thinking of using them during the winter to replace my 20" M wheels since they come with summer tires. I don't need to be able to drive in 10"+ of snow, just 2-4 inches.....My last 12 X5 came with 20" wheels and even-though they were all-season they were pretty bad, I couldn't drive the car with 1 inch of snow

When did the E70 w/20" wheels ever come with a/s tires? Unless you are saying you replaced the stock 20" summer tires with an a/s variant. But I'm thinking you still had summer tires, b/c I had no problems with 20" and a good a/s tire (DWS) in much more than 1" of snow.

But to answer your question, the 18" will suit you fine in VA

That's because those 20" wheels were NOT all season : ) Not unless you asked your dealer to swap them with non-runflat all season tires such as Continental DWS.

I ran oem 19" all season wheels/tire with my '12 X5 that also came with 20" summer performance tires. I had no problem in 2-4 inches of snow.

You guys are right, they were Dueler H/P Sport which are summer tires also.

Is this what comes stock on the current X5 with 20" also?

Would be a great choice, 19's would prob work too. I would just see what you can find and the best price by Googling out there. I've found complete BMW wheel and tires unused for $1800.

Have a BMW wheel 209 and winter tire combo 18"s that I have been running now since my 2011 x5. Looks ugly since they are so small on a M-Package x5 but get the job done.

No complains for 3 winters and I am sure not this one around either.
Actually just had the TPMS sensors swapped so the set would work on my new 2014.

Tire Rack sells decent 18" winter package options (check the e90post wheels and tires section Gary@tirerack)

Otherwise, it is Canadian $3,600 for the Style 446 18" with ContiContactSport Run Flat

The M Style 467 is $4,400 19"

Both prices are a rip honestly, you can get one from Tire Rack for 1/3 the BMW OEM price

How much did the new TPMS sensor swap cost?

Are the OEM tires on 18s Michelin Latitude Tour HP? Did they come with Good year?

Went to my local BMW dealer to do the swap so it was high $700 out the door
That included:
- 4 TPMS sensors
- Installing sensors
- Balancing
- Tire swap from Summer Set to Winter set

But in case there where any issues I wanted to be able to go straight back.
