Just ordered vgate OBD 2 WiFi and purchased the app. Decided to go this route, I am a Mac user and do not wish to do the boot camp.

I am looking to do just the following:

Open/close boot with key fob
Backup Camera while driving
Front camera while driving
Close windows with key fob
USB video playback
Open/close mirrors with key fob
Tire Pressure & temperatures

Are these coding possible with the App using the vgate obd 2 WiFi?

Thanks

I have experience in coding both with E-Sys on my F22 and using the Bimmercode app on our new to us F15.

As to your specific requests I have coded the following using the Bimmercode app and a vGate 2:

Open/close boot with key fob - YES
Close windows with key fob - YES
USB video playback - YES
Open/close mirrors with key fob - YES
Tire Pressure & temperatures -YES

As for these two options:
Backup Camera while driving
Front camera while driving

I had actually meant to code both of those and I have been led to believe it is possible with the app, but I have not myself done so yet. While those are features I would like, the car is my girlfriends and those are not features she wants so I didn't explore those settings too deeply in the app.

One thing to add, the Bimmercode app does allow you to enable "EXPERT" mode which does allow you to code various modules and settings manually as you can with E-Sys, it's just not as easy to use this mode as E-Sys or as well laid out as in the default app mode where you have a simple checkmark to click to activate various features for each module.

As someone that works in IT for a living I would categorize the Bimmercode app as an excellent utility and low risk for someone that wants to code their vehicle with a minimal investment of time and money. With the Expert mode it does allow much more power that comes close to the level of E-Sys but that Expert mode is currently not very well laid out and is harder to use than E-Sys. If you are more comfortable with the somewhat steeper initial learning curve, E-Sys allows more flexibility to make more complex coding changes.

Is the tire pressure and temperature as well as open/close mirrors easy to code via Bimmercode?

Yes, very easy to code. Just boxes that you check in the respective modules. I think there are other more comprehensive threads here that go into more detail about the application that you might want to review. Do a search on the forum for "Bimmercode" and I think you should be able to find them easy enough.

I also added door handle LEDs on when reversing. As a pilot, I'm a big fan of exterior safety lighting for visibility.

So, I took the plunge and ordered the vgate and purchased the necessary Apps (BimmerCode & BimmerLink) to do some coding too. Haven't received it yet, but from what I've read so far, this looks like the best route for someone like me, I'm pretty tech savvy and also a longtime Mac user (putting Microsoft OS via Bootcamp or Parallel is not an option for me!)

Also can anyone confirm that this will work on a 2017 X5 40e? I assume it would but wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

So, I just finished coding and I got the expected errors. Used BimmerLink to clear them out, but I still have an orange triangle w/exclamation mark on the instrument panel that won't go away. Will leaving the vehicle off for a min of :30 minutes perform a "reset" and clear that fault?

Thanks.

Power cycling, driving, and rest usually result in clearing of any false positives.

Nevermind!

I figured it out. It was a simple EBCAC (Error Between Computer And Chair) error. I just needed to reset my clock in iDrive and everything is GTG now!

Thanks!

It was just dumb me not paying full attention. Still kinda off kilter from the serious ass whoopin' I took earlier from the X5M!

For anyone new to coding and may be having apprehensions, try this route as described in this thread! IT'S TOO EASY!!!

Didn't work. Chose 5 blinks instead of 3 for the turn signal. Chose start engine without brake. Didn't work. Still blinks 3 times. Still won't start w/o the brake. I'm fucking tired of paying for shit that doesn't work.

After I selected the items, I coded, and it said it coded. I shut down the vehicle. I restarted it then shut it down and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then tried it again. When it reads it, it says 5 is selected but it's blinks 3 times. It says start without brake is selected, but it won't start without the brake. So not only does it not work, it lies and says it works, but it doesn't.

At least it was "easy." Maybe app is using odd codes that no longer work and has not been updated with new FDL's.

Revert to your backup and re-code.

Well, that's not cool at all. We've got the same model and year 50i, but all of my coding worked (although we didn't choose the same options). I'd revert to the first backup and either give it another shot, get with the developer w/your issues or solicit another set of eyes.

Again, I'm sorry you're having issues w/your coding.

Did you send the developer a support request through the app? It automatically attaches a coding log and he can analyze any issues. Don't give up so easily.
