iDrive Controller coding

So just picked up a 2014 50i and needed to get the iDrive controller replaced. Dealer informed me that it had failed and once the new one came in it would need coding.

Any idea if this kind of recoding would be the kind that would affect all the coding I just had done by bimmer America last week?

Don't know if that repair will clear out your coding. If they flash new software to you car, then yes it will. Did you ask the dealer?

This is the main reason to learn to do coding yourself. It's not hard and for the price of the cable , about $35, you can re-code yourself whenever needed. Anytime the dealer flashes a software update to your car, all your custom coding will need to be re-done.

Ya I got the app and the obd3 thing. Mostly got the other cuz it was a bit more in depth and I k ew that would take me a bit of time to learn that I just didn't have at the time. Plus I wanted the adaptive high beams

Touch controller has a module that needs flash programming to match dependent ECU's.

in the old CCC and CIC days, coding was sometimes required to match the idrive software up with the controller version.

In the old CCC/CIC days feature, dme coding and idrive coding were different modules, so you would not lose your feature or dme settings.

Someone like Patrys@BimmerTech or Mike Benvo would know.

Should be easily re-coded. Some offer it free, especially if just done.

Ya I've been meaning to get into myself and learn just haven't had time. Had a vendor do it about 3 weeks ago and I need to contact them to check. Just sucks cuz it cost me exta to get the anti dazzle feature (for what ever reason as it didn't take him any longer to do it)

Especially because I took the time to write Launcher Cheat codes for it. So, they can just click and apply changes. If they will not re-do it, I can.

Appreciate that bro. I'm gonna take a stab at what I can do with the wifi dongle this weekend although I know I can't redo the anti dazzle without changing a metric ton of "FTL"

Old thread but in a similar situation. I want to get my idrive controller replaced by my third party warranty as it is binding/getting stuck physically. I do not want the dealer to update the car (ISTEP) and I think even I notate this on the repair, they probably still have too. May hold off for now until it worsens. Is updating the car part of the ISTA procedure for replacing these idrive controllers??

Then just do the mod and call it a day. Don't need a while new controller. Just pop the top off and pull out the plastic ring that is broken and put the top back on. It just 2 sided tape. There's a thread on that here somewhere. I need to do it myself as my second controller has now broke at 60k miles and I can feel the binding again

Just get the ring out and save some money and time, here is the thread Maverik mentioned.
