If you put cutout flaps let's say before pipe goes into rear muffler - that will not give you deep growling sound unfortunately - you'll get more raspy droning sound. It has to go through rear muffler to acquire deep growl. I was looking to do same, but abandoned the idea in the end

I'm not sure this is completely accurate. There's a video of a 50i with electronic cutouts and it sounds deep and badass.

Give Eder at Pacific Speed a call.

He said it should be about $450.

Somebody needs to do this to the MPE and come up with a DIY on how to turn a stock muffler into that!

I think 450 makes it too extensive to not just get mpe and resell if u go back to stock since mpe used still selling for ~$1k

sorry to revive this thread. im having the muffler shop change my round tips to square ones soon so i am wondering if i should also have them cut the stock exhaust and mod it so it sounds like MPE. do you guys think MPE is all straight pipe inside the muffler with only a short portion of perforated pipes to eliminate drone? somebody posted some pics of an MPE looking at the pipe outside in and it looks like straight pipe. if so, would it be better to mod stock exhaust for straight pipe inside and leave a short portion of perforated pipe so it sounds more like MPE?

I know some will say "Yeh straight pipe inside is muffler delete" but I think it is a little different with the short perforated pipe section to eliminate drone using all those empty chambers and the fiberglass material

No one has ever cut up an MPE or do a snake head cam inside it so we really have no idea how it is structured internally...

Anyone with MPE in Socal willing to help out and let me insert a snake head cam in their pipes if I buy a snake head cam? Sounds disgusting but you know what I mean lol

Bimmerlink App does. Not BimmerCode..
There is the controller you can buy that you can open it with called the VSC-1. Check the Videos Out.

Speculation but do you think the 35d would sound the same or close to that if you did the same thing to the muffler of the 35d?

Yours sounds amazing btw super slick.

Diesels are the wrong engine for exhaust sounds. One of many reasons I picked a petrol.

Ugh...bummer but I hear you. My only thought is that you hear euro diesels with exhausts and they sound good. Why not the US? .....unless emissions?

Thanks Kzang, I appreciate the feedback.

Nice. can't wait for the sound bite. How much did it cost? Did they remove all the perforated pieces out?
