Passenger side mirror- auto tint?

Hey all
Just upgraded from my ‘15 to an ‘18 and am driving it home. Noticed two small annoyances. Regarding the side mirror I noticed it doesn’t auto tint. I still have my ‘15 x5. Is it as simple as replacing/swapping the glass for this feature to work?
If yes, any specific steps needed to remove and install?

Thanks all!

No it requires coding and extra wiring. I think it's the cold weather or convenience package. Idk which one it's in on the 2018.

On my '17 it did not require coding nor wiring. I've posted my instructions with pictures here: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...hlight=dimming

Cool good luck. They require extra wiring on the 14' if I recall.

What's all that soldering and extra parts you bought if it "didn't require wiring" lol

Either you're having difficulties reading or you're looking at a different thread altogether. The 'extra parts' I bought is one single mirror with auto dim feature as mine didn't come with it. I could have simply swapped the mirror but I decided not to. It's all in the text, don't just glance over the images next time.

I see now how I contradicted you regarding the *required* coding and wiring. I'm sorry about that and hope you will believe me when I tell you it's nothing personal. Your '14 did not come with auto dimming at all I'm guessing, that's why it needed coding and wiring.Mine did have the feature from factory but it only applied to the drivers' side mirror. (this is also mentioned in my post)
Since OP mentioned a single mirror I assumed he meant only the passenger side. You'll be happy to hear me agree with you that if his car indeed came without this feature at all and both (or all three) mirrors need replacing there is definitely a need for coding and it *might* even need extra wiring.

I hope that clears it right up for you. lol

Edit: I just came to realize OP explicitly mentions the 'passenger side mirror' in the title of the post. A simple swap will suffice in this case. Sorry

Wow. Angry little goat aren't ya? Doesn't make any sense that if all you needed is to swap the glass but yet you decided to cut and solder a bunch of wires etc. thats what doesn't make sense especially since you say it wasn't needed.

Either way don't really care. And yes I do have it on both mirrors myself.

Hope the OP figures it out.

Deuces.

Apologies goate I don’t follow you. I took my mirror apart. Maverick is correct. There is wiring as well. The mirror itself has an extra plug when it’s equipped with dimming. Otherwise there are two wires, for heating elements. I assume I need the entire housing module for a proper upgrade.

Understandable, seeing as how the conversation got sidetracked earlier. I'll try to clarify.
Since you have both cars, the '15 and the '18, you can swap the entire mirror out and you'll have a working auto dimming side mirror on your '18 without any wiring or coding.

The reason I cut wires is because the mirror I received had some light scratches on the glossy base that I didn't like, this step is completely optional though.

Only swapping the glass won't do the trick no as you need the module that is part of the mirror base.

Thanks. Any link on how to remove the housing? My mirror isn’t the same as the f30 YouTube vid. Looks like it gets disconnected from inside the window?
