DINAN IGNITION COIL (N SERIES STYLE), anyone using them?

I have searched and can't find anything except Evan@Tischer having an ad on the F15 Vendor Forum for these Dinan coils.

Is anyone using them, or have heard anything good or bad about them?

They're supposedly good and I've read good reviews. OEM Eldor coils is what I'm running since being tuned and what a lot of folks recommend for the n5x.

I'm going to go with them, ordered and they arrived already, ordered from Dinan directly. Cheapest and quickest way it seems like.
Hope to have my X5 back middle of the week, though only have my butt dyno to test with/ compare.

I've spent a ton of hours on coils. My only recommendation is to stick with the same design from a reputable brand (Delphi, Bosch, whatever brand from portugal is that I can't recall) and whatever the lowest price is. Changing coils can be temperamental at worst, waste of money at best.

If you want the best, spend the extra $5 each On the ‘Eldor’ brand coils. They are the newest iteration BMW uses on their high horsepower turbo cars. They’re very robust and I’m not sure I’ve ever read of one failing.

I don't know what engine you have, but since it's a 2017, it's around the time BMW changed the design for the connector slightly. I believe below info is the same for all engines, not just the S63.
Link from Dinan talking about how to modify their coils for MY 2016+
https://documents.dinancars.com/dina...oil_faq_r2.pdf

OEM Bimmerparts sell the new design for the 35i it looks like.
https://oembimmerparts.com/products/...35928779653280

Any vendor worth their salt, should be able to sell you the right version, if the above is not your issue.
I already have my Dinan coils, but after reading about Eldor, and if I have any issues with the Dinan version, I will order Eldor instead. Hopefully though, the Dinans will work great.

The Eldor coils looks like the might be US made, so that would be a plus.
https://www.wsls.com/news/2018/10/04...etourt-county/

But Eldor's website is kind of useless to gather info of what would fit any engine. Fluffy site made for investors not end users.

Also found a link with some interesting reading about coils, and different brands. It won't tell you what to buy, but I found it interesting to read.

What motor do you have?

Just call up FCP euro. They’ll send you some eldors that work. That’s what I did.

FCPEuro or EuroKlasse should have Eldors in stock and ready to ship.

Update, Dinan coils might not be working for me.
I'm back to using 3 old stock coils, and I'm thinking 8 Eldors will be on order soon.

Dinan coils worked OK during normal driving, but now past around 1,000 miles initial break-in and careful driving, I started getting misfires under acceleration. I had different cylinders setting codes, than what my mechanic found after reset. He only replaced the ones he got codes for. So if I get any more misfires over the weekend for any of the remaining Dinan coils, I will keep replacing them. But I only have 7 of the originals, and I still need to order a complete new set.

Also despite careful driving during break in, my gas mileage is still not above 14miles/g.

I believe it's the coils that's the issue. New motor, new plugs, new injectors, new Dinan coils. Replaced Dinan coils with old OEMs on cylinders with last misfires, and now seems to run better.

More to come, and I'm hoping for a definite answer when I have a complete set of 8 new coils to test with. My shop wants me to use locally sourced Bosch, or NGK? coils, but I'm thinking waiting for a set of Eldors might be smarter.

Keep me posted. I just changed to Dinan and havent had any issues yet. Just drove 5 hours semi aggressively with bm3 stage 1 and seemed to hold up.

I don't know enough about coils, but I'm wondering if the fact that I'm not tuned (still breaking in new engine), cause the coils to not play nice?
Since you have BM3, and no issues, it makes me wonder if there is a correlation?

I have reached out to Dinan to see what they think, and I will update when I hear back from them.

Lack of tune shouldn't be an issue. Did your mechanic gap the plugs?

I should add that I have a 35i and it appears you have a 50i right? Also, I am limiting my boost to 13 PSI until my charge pipecomes in. The fact that everything is new has me kinda stumped...

yes, 50i. Stock tune.
I'm pretty sure the plugs were gapped to OEM specs, the shop that did the swap knows their stuff.

Weird thing is that with mix of old OEM coils and the new Dinans, it has not throw a misfire code yet, car seems to run ok even under moderate acceleration. I have still not pushed the engine hard, want to wait until I have all new Bosch or Eldor coils, whatever I can get hold of the quickest next week.

Update, spoke to Dinan Customer Service.
They will send me a whole new set of 8 to try.
Might be a couple weeks before I have time to deal with it, but I'm willing to give it another go.
