I’m going to tell you right now, that auction prices are over hyped. These cars on auction and compare to cargurus, are pretty much same shit. By the time you pay dealers to clear car, post sale inspection, transport fee if out of state, you pretty much at same price as local dealers selling the same car.

I have also inspected 6 possible purchases at manheim. Site shows one thing, but I personally found unlisted problems and body damage. Don’t put too much faith into auction prices.

Agreed. There is always the unicorn that sells below market but really if you look at auction pricing you realize there's not much profit per car. It's a numbers game.

Plus, it's better to have someone to complain to if the car breaks after a week of ownership.

Exactly this. Plus they let anything slip through the auctions. I was at a BMW franchise auction, where they are required to list all issues. One of the issues they "forgot" to mention was that the car had a rear end collision. No way to see it in pics, but the bumper was wavy on first glance. So yea, don't do it. People whose business it is, they can catch a deal for a bit of proffit, but you and me, no.
