Anyone Receive PM from Member Manxbim332?

I'm concerned about potential fraud with this member so I'm wondering if anyone else got a PM from him saying to contact someone name Osbey at lifeisgood2580 @gmail.com for parts he's selling.

Hey I just noticed his PMs to me are gone from my inbox and he's banned? Can a moderator chime in and tell me what happened?

Did some digging and it was definitely a scam. Was given the same number noted in the thread below from another forum:

Yeah I got suckered.

I've been looking for an Invisihitch and had some posts here and there. Got a PM from Manxbim332 saying check with someone name Osbey at zip code 303.... or email him at the email above. I sent the email and "Osbey" said he has one for sale for $300 shipped. He even listed a phone number on his email (707-861-0828).

I was excited at finding the unit and didn't even think to ask for pics but simply asked for his Venmo and sent him payment. He said he was going to ship it the next day but for some reason, I had a bad feeling a couple hours later. Next day I called his number and it was a Google phone. I left vm and he actually texted me back saying he'll ship it that evening and would send me tracking. Next day I texted him again and he said he shipped it already but that he's a truck driver and is out on the road. In the meantime, I pinged Manxbim332 asking how he knows Osbey and if he's a member but didn't get a reply. Pretty much knew I've been had.

I noticed that there are two other people that had also Venmoed him for some car parts. Wished I could reach out to them and let them know not to hold their breath on getting those parts.

And yes I know. Should have been more careful, used PayPal and pay for goods and services to be protected...etc.. I've bought dozens of parts from members from various forums and first time this has happened. Always a first time I guess.

Sent a note to Venmo Support detailing the incident and asking to see if I can somehow get my money part but I don't think they can do anything about it.

Sorry for the long post. A little drama to entertain you all. haha

You can always call your local fbi office. I'm not sure what they'll do but they handle internet fraud cases. I've had someone hack my tmobile account a few years back and ordered an iphone 8 with my cc on file. Probably they had a good laugh on my expense and likely didn't investigate but at least i felt good about my report

They don't do sh#t. I actually almost got scammed (I think I have a virtual "sucker" on my head) about a month ago and the guy had a full website mimicking Edmunds.com with pics of his car and stuff. I filed an internet crime case on the FBI's website and never heard from them.

I think your best bet is to contact venmo. At a minimum they may ban that person. I've never used venmo, but I'm assuming you need to link a bank account?

Yeah you have to link a bank account or credit card, just like PayPal. I think if I had paid it out of my credit card through Venmo, then I could dispute with my credit card company to ask for a chargeback but I paid with my Venmo balance.

Will venmo give you their personal info and bank info? I don't see how they would protect a scammer.

I doubt they'd release any personal info to someone just asking. For all they know, I could be scamming him.

I did call them today but got a recording stating to call back during Mon-Fri so I emailed them.

On a brighter note...Out of the blue Fri night, I get a PM from member HgbPber (David) who said he has an Invisihitch laying around and would give it to me for free if I just come pick it up. I called him right away and felt like jumping through the phone to give him a hug. Was able to get my brother's friend to pick the unit up yesterday.

I offered to pay David fair price for the hitch but he declined. I see that he only has one post even though he's been a member since 2013 so he's hardly active. Just want to publicly thank him for his generosity. Wish for plenty of good karma to go his way.
