Considering switch from X1 to X5 and have questions
Hello! I’m ready for a bigger car and have enjoyed the X1. I’ve noticed that 2016ish X5 V6 can be had for a nearly equal trade for my newer X1. I have some questions:
1. Is there anything I should know when shopping X5 years? Key features, improvements, fluky stuff, etc.? 2. How solid is the X5 from this generation? My area is flush with independent BMW repair shops so I’m not ultra turned off by maintenance costs, but I do want to make sure I have a good idea what I’d be signing up for with the X5. To be clear, I will not be considering any performance trims or packages that could lead to problems. 3. Is it possible to add Apple CarPlay without a coding adventure? 4. Overall are you happy with yours? |

The xDrive35i or xDrive 35d would be your best bet. 35i is the straight 6 turbo gasoline, 35 is the diesel version. The diesel commands a premium, but they hold value better and have lots of torque and great MPG. No real problems with either model. Apple Carplay is available in the 17+ I believe. Options wise, that's up to you and what you feel is important. I know I would not be happy without M Sport and Night Vision. But it's all preference. No earth shattering difference among the different years IMO.
I have the 50i and am in love with mine.

Every time I see someone driving an X1 I feel so bad for them, no offense.
Moving to an X5 will be a whole new world of comfort and power. |

I'm in Alexandria and just did this dance last fall. Happy with the 2016 CPO we got for my wife.
Unless your X1 is new I'd think the same as Deezulbeem. Clean, relatively low mile X5s with some warranty left aren't cheap. And in this area seems like a seller's market, vast majority leased and returned to dealers. If you have no timetable, you might want to start keeping an eye out for private party sales. Not that common but they do pop up. Research all the options so you know what you can live without.

Oh god boomer fight.
For real though relax, it's ok to ask questions in a forum. If it's a question that's already been answer why waste your time complaining about it? Go complain about how China is ruining the M4 grill size instead or something more meaningful. |
