I did a convoluted 3 way sale - sold my silver 612s and bought the black. I think they're going to look sweet on my DG with blacked out kidney and side grills/gills.
I've seen quite a few people swap from silver to black 612s, with the black grille/side it will definitely be a good fit. Sure they're stock, but there are so few X5Ms around (at least in my area) they still feel special. I do wish they were slightly less glossy, I love my satin black color on my winter wheels.

My winter wheels (the orbit grey 611s) have so much brake dust on them right now, they look flat black

I ran monster rears all winter with staggered setup 285/21/35 - 325/21/30 on Yokohama winter Blu Earths for over 3000 mi. I was fine, including out of state driving. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for craters.

I know I'm in the minority (or alone), but I prefer the silver 612Ms on my BSM X5M with the contrasting chrome grille surrounds and gills. But it must have the front reflector delete to complete the look!! Haha
I was so happy to finally swap out my orbit grey 611M winters

cmyx6go you get the tires at least mount on mine (I mean your) black 612Ms?

Not yet. I will switch in the next week or two. I'd much rather experience extra wear on my winter tires than not have enough grip with summers on a fluke 30 degree morning. Not to mention pot hole repair is in full swing right now.

Can't wait though

No, I meant did you at least mount/balance your summer tires onto the 612M wheels, so you can just simply swap out in a few weeks?

I wish my town would get in full swing this year on some roads that never got touched after last winter.

You are not in the minority, on BSM, silver wheels are the beans!

On my Melbourne, I prefer the black. It really comes down to contrast and I don't think the sliver really has it against red paint.

I have a tire vendor for that The pros of owning a trucking company. Vendor has the tires, he will come pick up the wheels and mount when I tell him I'm ready. Then I just go and in 1/2 hour I'm out of there.

I broke down and ordered RFs when I saw they were available. If I don't like them, I'll mount the non RF and use the RF just in case or for lease return.

I am with you on it only difference is I would do black pockets and not introduce a new color into the colorway.

So the answer is no right time...Its mid-April and I switched my wheels on Saturday after 70degree weather and the temps dropped to the 30s with wintery mix of precipitation on Sunday/Monday.

The temps here are fine, night time lows in the upper 40s and 50s but one of the highways I travel is in pothole repair mode. I don't want to switch until it's done. They have one lane closed while they repair the other lane and it's common to have debris in the travel lane. I want my big girl wheels damn it!

Question for you guys with the black 612s, or any black wheel - I think the wheels look great but the tire valve stems are silver and look like an eye sore. Are yours silver? What can I use to make them black?

I bought some black nuts on eBay and use black valve caps. There is about 1/4" of silver stem showing but you would not notice unless looking for it.

Unfortunately it is not possible to buy OE VDO/Continental nuts or stems in any color other than silver.
