Just picked up a nice 2016 CPO yesterday. 11/20/15 inservice date, so we've got 2 months of full warranty and then one additional CPO year unlimited miles after.

Number I was quoted to extend CPO to two years (what it used to be) was $3,680. Too steep IMO, esp. since CPO warranty does not cover stuff like electronics.

I purchased mine for 5y/60K/$4.2K w/ disappearing deductible. This means that if I fix my car at a dealership from which I purchased the warranty then I don't even pay the deductible. If I want to have it fixed at another dealership or an indie shop then I pay $100 deductible. This is platinum version, the one, which list 14 items which are not covered by this warranty and everything else is.

The warranty prices are all over the place and also BMW as far as I know, does not offer any warranty per se besides contracting out with other 3rd party companies.

You guys better find out who the underwriters for your warranty companies are and check their reviews.

I believe every BMW sell the BMW official extended warranty but they also sell third parties on the side (maybe more profit ).

BMW official warranty has a set price and the dealership add on top of that wholesale price to make a good profit and that is why I think the price is all over the place.

I'm new this but I've done a lot of research and I believe BMW does have an official extended warranty program

Yes, they do. They may try to take the risk themselves or have someone else do it but in either case get the best one you can get.

I went to a dentist recently:
- "Do you have insurance?"
- "Yes, I do"
- "But your insurance doesn't cover <whatever is that I was having done>"
- "So what do I do with it (i.e. the insurance), what I can use it for?"
- "Nothing, you just pay for it"

Hi
All set and done.

Christine Newman from Steve Thomas BMW has the best price if you are looking to extend your warranty, she is very responsive and highly recommend them

I was able to get Platinum for 84/75k around 4900

one mans "cheap" is another man's horrible value. People view "cheap/expensive" in binary terms, without regard to optionality. My guess is (please, i'm not saying in disrespectful way) that you consider $5k over 8 years as "cheap". Well you will only really know the answer to that if over the "life" of your car you get billed more than $5k for repairs.

What happens if your car gets totalled before 8 years? What happens if you trade in the car say 4 years from now? Have you usually kept a car that long? (yes if its transferable and you like to do private sales then you got that covered.).

i'm merely chiming in here people all too often disregard optionality. Here's another way of thinking about it. Why do most people in the USA get a 30yr fixed rate mortgage when the overwhelming data shows the average mortgage only lasts 7 years? they didnt take the ARM mortgage because "the 30yr was very cheap". Then they sold their house or refinanced after about 5 years went by.

"peace of mind" is often on not calibrated to math/data/facts.

(again.. no disrespect.. just a talking point for the board)

Which warranty you guys are getting? 7years/75K isn't bad though for $4000? My factory warranty expired 3 days ago but it is still CPO'd

If you already have CPO and your adding BMW extended warranty your miles should be unlimited not 75k
I called Steve Brown BMW and they said since car is CPO, can only extend CPO. I am not eligible for platinum. Which makes me leaning towards a third party warranty company. I might go with endurance as I had good luck on my Mercedes with them.

5k is EASY to rack up in repairs. Most won't have the cash upfront so won't buy the warranty but will spend $$$ each year when stuff breaks. Everyone should know driving a BMW, a single repair can easily be 1k.

For those who just purchased a used X5 I can understand that paying 5k for something you bought for 30 seems unethical but Ive witnessed countless times at the shop where repairs would exceed nearly half or more of what the car itself was bought for. The most dumbfounded thing I would see back then is people come in with wheels which they had paid 4-6k for to have installed only for that same customer to come back and not afford costly repairs because they can't "afford it" If you can't bite off more than you can chew look into some sort of warranty whether it's BMWs or 3rd party.
Nailed it. My I drive is controller is binding, wonder how much that’ll be alone.

What company did you go with? I got offered $5200 for 5 years but only up to 80K on the ODO. Apparently, it covers EVERYTHING like wheels, tires and such too.

FWIW, on purchase a few weeks ago of 2016 CPO, we got offered price to extend CPO another year, wheel protection, maintenance program and "all surface" protection.

One additional factor to consider - if you're a DIY type owner who plans on doing preventative work - more frequent oil changes, metal charge pipe, transfer case fluid change and the like - that can affect how attractive a warranty is. For someone who doesn't like to wrench it might be a good deal.

Since I cannot get the BMW Platinum, I am going to go with Endurance. It is a bit higher cost than others but overall good reviews. Only bad reviews I see are them taking sweet ass time to pay out. I got offered $4848 for 4 Years/100K. Car currently has 43,000 miles on it so about 57K in coverage for over 4 years. They are letting my "finance" it also for 24 months. I will probably pay it within 12 months to be honest. Hi-Tech electronics like nav, radio will go out at 80K

Rt 66 - Doesn't cover X5
Fidelity - Only through dealers/CU
CarChex - $6100 for only 3yr/36K
BMW - CPO Wrap for $3200 for 2yrs/Unlimited
AAA- Not offered in my region

Dealer has no idea what they are talking about then. My F80 was a cpo and I got bmws platinum warranty on top of the added one year of cpo so basically I added the max of 2 more years which resulted in 7years/unlimited miles. Call Steve thomas bmw and ask for Francesca these guys are warranty specialist and had the best price to offer throughout the U.S

Francesca is the one who told me it is not possible. Factory warranty ended 3 days ago but CPO till 2020. She said if car was under warranty even with a day left then she can do it. Not if it is out of warranty
